    Default My New Vocations beauty!

Backstory: I bought a lovely OTTB a little over 2.5 years ago who was perfect...until he started having neurologic problems due to arthritis in his neck. After thousands of dollars and a heartbreaking year trying to figure out what was wrong, I found him a nice home to retire at the ripe old age of 6. Since then I've had a few free leases - some good, some not so good - but haven't owned anything myself. Well, when my last lease was sold suddenly at Thanksgiving I started looking for another OTTB to buy. After missing out on a few good ones and vetting a couple that didn't pass, the stars aligned and I wound up with this gorgeous guy from New Vocations: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater

I'm so happy I just wanted to share. I have to give a big thanks to Melissa King from New Vocations, without her this would never have happened (and to my trainer who forced me to call about him when I'd kind of given up). I'm hoping that he'll end up being my Adult Amateur hunter. So far he's sweet, sane, and SOUND...plus he already has an auto change! The one thing he doesn't have is a name. He was being called Conductor, but it reminds me too much of a train conductor. We won't be showing for awhile obviously, but if anyone has any suggestions for barn names or show names then I'm all ears. I'd love to come up with a name that fits with the Dixieland Band genre, a barn name that goes with it would just be icing on the cake.

Congratulations! I went to put my application in on him and saw he had already been scooped up. Please keep us updated on his progress. I am so happy for you...and sounds like he has an amazing home!

No help on the name. I just purchased a 16.2 grey mare and am having trouble with the name too!

what a handsome guy, he certainly looks like he has the makings for an eye-catching hunter! congratulations

when it comes to names, i personally like "people names" for horses. so maybe poke through a couple baby name books or sites (you could narrow it by origin, ie: old english, southern, etc) and see if anything strikes your fancy.

    James
    Henry......

The Great Gatsby takes place in the roaring 20s, which is also when Dixieland Bands became popular...

Going with the whole 20's themes, you could name him Speakeasy (places that illegally sold alcoholic beverages during prohibition)

His barn name could be Gatsby... they're related indirectly lol

I like Speakeasy. Easy as a barn name would be cute.

Wow, he is handsome. I usually don't change my horse's names but, I think a name for him is easy. Super Fly Guy or He's so fly with a barn name like guy, gooey, buzz or something like that. Also, thank you for purchasing from New Vocations. It is people like you that help to make a program like New Vocations successful. Good Luck with your new man.

Congratulations! He caught my eye too. Glad he has a great home. Since Ringo Starr was Mr. Conductor on the Shining Times Station series many years ago, how about Shining Times for the show name, and Ringo for the barn name?
It's 2014. Do you know where your old horse is?

He looks cute. It would be great if you could keep his JC name. If you do wind up showing him, you could help promote the sale/adoption of other OTTB horses by making it easier to keep track of the pedigree's performance.

    OOh! He's lovely. Lucky you!

I like "Swing Time" as well. You could call him Louis (for Louis Armstrong) as a barn name.

He's lovely! I had a Dixieland Band gelding for awhile. He was a great horse.

    Good luck with him.
