Hi! I may be relocating to Missoula, MT so I have been researching hunter/jumper barns in the area. I have not had much luck so I was wondering if anyone knows of any quality trainers. Thanks in advance!

I'm starting to think by the lack of response that Missoula might not be a good place to move for a hunter/jumper rider!

I have family in Hamilton (about an hour from Missoula) and there's not much there in general, so I wouldn't expect there to be much for a Hunter rider, ha. If you want real "A" circuit, your best bet would be to meet up with Jessie Lang in Jackson Hole (6 hours) at shows or ride on weekends.

I'd suggest contacting the Montana State Equestrian team to see if they have any ideas (they are in Bozeman - so no help on where they ride - but some of the members might be familiar with options closer to their home towns):

I know they have a hunt seat team that competes actively in the IHSA.

Or you might want to check with all the colleges that compete IHSA in Montana - there are quite a few (zone 8, Region 3):

I've been up to a friend's place in Missoula a few times - lots of horses, but never came across a H/J barn (but honestly wasn't specifically looking for that). You might have to look up towards Kallispell (where it's a bit "trendier"), but that would be a significant drive during the winter from Missoula...

Also, if you are flexible on discipline, there is a HUGE eventing complex up in Kallispell/Whitefish- contacting them might at least get you information on eventing barns in the area - so you could still be getting jumping instruction (but just not necessarily hunter/jumper focus):

THANK YOU for the information! The Equestrian team is a great resource, I will definitely get in contact with them. I am not very flexible on the discipline since I am more of a Hunter rider than a jumper, but they may have some insight for me as well. Thanks again for your help!
