Hi guys,

Been reading on this forum some time and appreciate the great knowledge in here - however, now it is my turn to ask for help

I am doing an ET on a Florestan x Lauries Crusador mare.
She is a BIG framed, chestnut mare. She has been competed successfully and had 4 foals to the same stallion (Lauries As). All foals have had excellent temperaments and the first one is under saddle going beautifully.

What I am after is: longer legs than the mare, lighter build and prettier face AND... preferably not chestnut
In movement I prefer more "knee" than straight legs.

I was thinking Ampère, but how is everyones experiences with him? I am open for suggestions so please enlighten me!
I am in Australia so it will be frozen semen.

If the other foals by Lauries As turned out well, why not re-breed her to him (unless he is not available where you are)? The offspring I've seen by Ampère were really nice and had good length of leg although I do not know if it was because of him or the mares side. Have you tried looking him up on the KWPN site to get the foal report on him? This should help.

The mare is a Lauries Crusador granddaughter, and she has been bred four times to a Lauries Crusador grandson. It sounds like it has worked, but personally, I would try something different next time around just for the heck of it. Ampere is an interesting thought, but you also might want to look at Sandro Hit and sons if you want longer legs, prettier face, more knee action, etc.

I bred to Ampere and got a really special filly (out of a Jazz mare) last year. She won a foal class of 20 at the Iron Spring Keuring and finished 5th in the US overall. Her handler at the keuring, Janko van der Lagewege, told me that Ampere is KNOWN to put movement on all his foals.

It is so hard as the foal is for myself AND it's my first time breeding

Try looking at Don Principe. His banner is at the top of the forum this week. The Donnerhall/Florestan cross is proven-Fuerst Heinrich, Furstenball, etc.

FWIW, I just saw an absolutely breathtaking Sir Donnerhall horse at a private barn in FL. He was super super fancy, with fantastic gait mechanics, and an enormous amount of suspension, elasticity, suppleness, athleticism, etc. The arena was chock full of REALLY nice horses and excellent riders, and it was very hard to NOT watch this horse. He was not for the average amateur, though - was a bit on the hot, sensitive side and had too much athleticism for most amateurs (maybe even for many pros). Just the trot alone would have been hard to stay with for many riders. He was quite an incredible horse - it will be interesting to see how far he goes and if he can sit enough for GP (I think he is a 7 y/o this year - ?).

DownYonder, thank you for your input. I tell you, I am driving myself insane with this breeding! I am NOT doing it again (so I tell myself ).

I want something that will be easy to sell if it is too hot. Mum was super ridable and was awarded Medium Dressage Horse of the year before her accident, so if the foal inherit her mind that would be great.

I might just have to bite the bullet and pay PSI and get the ball rolling...

I have had 4 Sir Donnerhalls from a lively C/E line mare (not "hot", just loves to move and full of confidence). The foals (5th one in the oven) have all been leggy, with tons of movement and athleticism. Good temperaments, confident and sociable. Two of the boys are described by their owners as "so quiet". Kind, sociable youngsters.
