Default Looking for the Perfect Walk Video

I'm trying to educate my eye, will someone please post a video of what is considered a "10" walk. I'd like to see both Dressage and Hunter if possible. In hand or under saddle is fine with me..Thanks

    SH

This is Golden State. He scored a perfect 10 for his walk at the Bundeschampionate in September 2012. The walk is perfect - large, swinging, supple, cat like, and clear.

He also scored 9.5 on trot and 9.5 on canter. 9.5 and 10 on rideability.

I have two videos of walks that were deemed 9's. I'll post links tonight. One was at a clinic with Hilda Gurney this past Nov and she broke it down for the audience.

Here is a video of my mare, Sera Veneziana's inspection in Sept this past year. Inspector is Brad Kerbs with ATA. He singles her out for her walk towards the end (in the comments portion) and she scored a 9 for the walk - and has me walk her back and forth etc. She is by Veneziano out of Sweet Chloe by Carino *E* (1/4 TB, 3/4 TK).

And here is the video of Tate in a Hilda Gurney Clinic at the ATA Convention in OH this past year (Nov). The clinic was on developing and breeding young stock and what to look for etc. Hilda said that he probably scores 9's on his walk - and he usually does, he typically get's 8 - 9 on any walk movement consistently in dressage shows and in the dressage phase in eventing (he's showing 2nd level and Prelim).

Woodlander's Farouche got a 10 on her walk, and they said that in the Finals, her walk in the pirouette was perfect.

Please forgive me, I know nothing about the hunter breeding world...

All the examples posted of fabulous walks have been dressage horses. Is it not as important in the hunter world? Like I said, I know nothing about hunters, so my question is genuine and not a slam or anything.

hmh I do not know about hunterworld. I assume a good walk has good rhythem, clear fourbeat, good overreach and with not a lot of power it covers a lot of ground. So would you say that is different for hunters ?

I can second BD. He scroed a 10 at the BC as a 3yo so if you check out videos by him, you should search for these early ones to see that it is natural.

I have crossed tow of my mares to him and both have already a very good walk. We have a picture of the 3yo -that just starts "playing" under saddle- in walk and I guess from the video that he has an overreach of more than 60cm (2ft)! all three foals from the same mare have that !

This is another dressage horse, but check out Royal Prince. He walks like a panther.

I was thinking of Royal Prince also, didn't he get a 10 for his walk? His walk is extraordinary. Both he and Don Principe have Prince Thatch dam sires.

Yep and Prince Thatch is known by passing on a great walks. On of the above mares with the good walk crossed to BD has a PT dam :-D and her halfsister is also an SPS with a 9 for her walk in MPT.
