I am a hunter rider looking for a dressage trainer to help me with my flatwork, preferably in the Staunton/Crozet/Charlottesville area (in that order). I can strongly reccommend Nancy Covert. She is an Eventer (and President of CDCTA) wit VERY STRONG Dressage skills. She is successful in straight dressage, and also understands the realtionship between dressage and jumping. She also has a very encouraging teaching manner - ver correct, but not criticizing.

I'm from that area but I'm no help. I'm curious to see what the answer is though, as I'd like to move back there one of these days.

My last year of high school, I became a working student for an Andalusian barn in Ruckersville where I got my first taste of dressage and now have been doing it ever since. Had to drive an hour each way though.

I know of a couple, but I think they are too far for you. Pierucci Dressage, Will Coleman Eventing. I've been away from there too long now. You might try looking down towards Lexington too.

Depends on what you are looking for but there are a variety of good dressage instructors in the area. I recommend checking out VADACH.org - the newsletter has ads from several trainers if I recall correctly.

Some I can recommend that have always been professional and friendly within the club and at shows - in no particular order:

Don't know anyone to the west of Cville over in Staunton. or Crozet. Everyone is further east than that.

Debbie Bowman is a titch south of Cville, you will prob need to haul to her unless you have a group, or get involved with a clinic she teaches on reg basis.

Nancy Covert is a titch east of Cville.

Toad hollow farm is in crozet, you might try contacting them. I know that Will Coleman travels there to teach private lessons. (Though he may be in Florida now)?

I would second Anne Aloi, because she is DA BOMB. But, she moved to Chesapeake, VA. She does come back to the area to teach clinics, though.
