Thanks Bluey. So no-one ever re-registered the mare.
I bought her, back in maybe 2004/2005 in partnership with a trainer. At the time we were buying a few horses with potential, putting some training into them and re-marketing them. Sally, (Oakie's playgirl) was stunning and owned by a neighbor. She went into training and then basically disappeared. It was right around the time the hurricane hit Port Arthur and she was down near there. I never got a completely clear story on what happened, at one time they said she had just been turned out to fend for herself along with 2 others that I half-owned at the time but then there were a couple of other things that made me wonder if that was the whole truth - she was by far the nicest horse we had at the time.
I wouldn't want her back, just if someone had actually re-registered her, I would be able to satisfy my curiosity as to whether she really had disappeared.
That is sad, but no one has registered her, she may have been sold as grade and be somewhere carting kids in the small shows.
Many of the English shows don't care if a horse has papers, so many don't even keep track of those.
You could call the AQHA directly for more information, but wait a bit, they are reorganizing their computer programs and I hear it is a real mess, they are so far behind with their work, trying to catch up.
Fwiw (not much! ) I owned a wonderful registered Appendix mare for ten years whom I never re-registered in my own name. She came with the AQHA papers, but I never had a good reason to go that extra step so I just never got around to it.
