I have a gift card to use. Can anyone recommend some good books to order? I already have George Morris' book, also have the 101 jumping exercises. I just ordered Denny Emerson's book. Maybe another book on equitation exercises or something similar? I am looking for training books, no novels. TIA!
Common Sense Dressage by Sally O'Connor! Dressage makes for an adjustable horse. Another book you might check out is Build a Better Athlete by Leslie Webb. She did a fantastic series of how-to articles in Practical Horseman.
Just a few suggestions from the dark side.
A helmet saved my life.
2016 goal: learn to ride like TheHorseProblem, er, a barn rat!
Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic is the name of her book, and I agree it's excellent. I found the explanations thorough and there are a ton of pictures to show you step-by-step what she is doing. There are sections for Basic Flatwork, Basic Jumping, Advanced Flatwork, and Advanced Jumping.
I also have the Anna Jane White-Mullin book The Complete Guide to Hunter Seat Training, Showing, and Judging: On the Flat and Over Fences.
I've spent most of my life riding horses. The rest I've just wasted.
Great suggestions on all the above. I really found Peter Leone's book helpful -- a ton of exercises that were easy to do and relevant to the issues many ammies have. Here's a review I did of it on Horse Junkies United: http://www.horsejunkiesunited.com/?p=35240
