Do synthetic saddles (Wintecs, etc.) get mold problems?

I'm selling a nice English leather saddle that I have because it tends to get moldy. I think the people who had it before me treated it poorly. It had some dry rot and mold. (Does dry rot make a saddle more mold prone?)

Anyway, do synthetic saddles get mold issues? I mean the type of mold that you clean away (even with a light ammonia) but will come back? I might get a Wintec (yes, I like them) cause I just can't deal with any more mold prone saddles.

    Thanks so much !

I've owned two Wintecs, a Thorowgood and a bunch of biothane driving harnesses. No mold problems ever. Some of my leather tack -- yes, I have to watch it. My favorite part about synthetic tack is how easy it cleans. This is especially true with the harnesses.

We live in the South so I know the frustration of moldy leather tack; even in upscale barns. I've owned several Wintecs and they are truly easy keepers - just hose them off and let them dry off in the sun.

Mold gets on everything down here, you just can't let it take over.

We've never had a problem with mold on our synthetic western saddle.

    Thanks so much, guys.

Another Wintec it is for me, then. And they are so nice & light.

In the south, mold will grow on anything, even the Wintec Dressage Pro I used to have. It appeared most quickly on the leather billets, but it would get a little around the base of the flaps. Much less than leather though!

LOVE my wintec/ Bates CC saddle! I even use it for some short endurance rides (under 30mi) swim in it, sweat on it, and just hose it off! It still weirds me out cleaning it and I miss the feel of leather but since starting endurance rides I'm pretty sure I would be considered less than kind to leather tack.
