That was my thinking as well. My local Petsmart has the beef variety on super clearance and I thought about picking up some because the first five ingredients are meat-based (admittedly, some by-product) but that wheat gluten was sixth on the ingredient list and a big strike against it. I'll put my money toward a case of Classic FF instead.
I feed this brand regularly. The pate styles don't have wheat gluten, though a couple have brewer's rice; I just avoid those flavors. I only feed pate styles anyway; gravy foods are very high in carbs and one of mine is diabetic. I feed the Poultry Platter flavor; the first ingredient is turkey.
If money wasn't an issue, I'd feed higher quality canned, but it is. And I'd feed this long before I'd feed any brand of dry food at all.
