I hear the best way to break up a stallion fight is to grab them by the back legs and pull.

The only owners I know that separated two fighting dogs by the 'grab the back legs method' had Basenjis, and the dogs refused to let go to nail the people. They would take them to the gate, close the gate slowly, and then they would be separated by the gate. However, any other breed that weren't their own dogs would have turned and bitten my friend and his wife, but they had a long history with the dogs involved, and they eventually quit with Basenjis and have Papillons for years now.
