Default Has anyone heard of Interstallion commitee? Nobody?

As we say in French (in Quebec): What does it eat in winter??

In other words: what's it all about?

Is this what you are referring to? If so, there's information at that link.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Jos. I did some google searches too before asking here. It is that I have been told that this committee is working with the major european and some north american registries (not to name CWHBA) to look to set "common international standards for linear scoring" of stallions worldwide.

And after finding not so much about it on internet (or nothing recent), I tought I'd ask on COTH if anyone who has been in the breeding world longer than me can speak about this committee's work, and where they are now in this project and what it implies, and who are the registries that are involved or still involved etc.

What, concretely, this committee is working on and what will it means for the registries that are participating?

    Thanks!

    Ok... Last time I try

So nobody, ever never ever heard or read about this, in a publication of their respective registry(ies) etc.?

There was one article far long time ago (2004) into Der Hannoveraner at least:

    http://www.biw.kuleuven.be/genlog/li...iewenglish.pdf

But the thing I want to know if: is it still an active working group, and what importance different registries (here and in Europe, especially Germany) give to that working group and their ideas.

Because, in the link posted above, at the end of the page (not the last paragraph but the one before the last) it is stated that the conclusions of one of the group's expert is that there's no real need for long SPT, and shorter tests would be just as accurate. And I find it very interesting since both ISR Old NA an CWHBA has adopted the "swedish" version of SPT (10 days), instead of the more generally accepted and used 30dt+70dt or 30dt+performance.

    Now... Any toughts?

It sounds pretty ambitious to me and I doubt that anything ever became of it. The European horse registries are already getting more and more open to "outside" stallions and I can't imagine them wanting yet another "administrative" entity that wants to look at their horse records and maybe even dictate how they evaluate stallions.

As far as looking at and consolidating performance records in Europe and overseas goes.... good luck with that!! Try tracking a warmblood that was exported to the US and is shown in the hunters! LOL

In the end it's also a very politically charged undertaking and I can't imagine some of the players that would be involved giving up their power positions/knowledge.

    Just my opinion....
