After taking about a year hiatus from riding, I decided I wanted to give something new a try. Having done the hunters for years upon years, I was beyond burnt out of showing, traveling, etc.

So, today, I had my very first reining lesson. Yep, there I was, "Miss I love 17hh WB's" on the back of a 4y/o 14.2hh QH mare this morning! In not so many words...I'm in absolute love!!!!!!

I was lucky to find a fabulous reining farm with many national titles under their belt and over 20 years of breeding experience.

So who knows, maybe this little hunter lady will be making wranglers a daily fashion statement.

If you stick with it or not, you will be a better rider for it.
Nothing like expanding your knowledge.

Best way to learn a new discipline, go to those that are doing well in it.
I think for many coming from other disciplines and starting reining, it is hard to get used to riding a headless horse.

That sounds awesome! I have always been a hunter rider as well, but I have dabbled in WP since coming to Southern Cross Ranch 5 years ago. DH bought an extremely nice WP horse that was the Dixie Nationals All Around Amateur Champion this year so I figure I'm going to find a real WP trainer and finally throw away my breeches and hunt coat for chaps and a bedazzled shirt

Have fun! I took cutting lessons for a year and really enjoyed it; learned a lot about cows too. The people at the barn and competitions were very nice, no snobs.

Have so much fun! I spent a year working with Spike Holmes when I was at Morrisville, and it was a blast! I really learned how to use my seat.

I, too, have dreamed of getting myself a 14h sane QH and just be-bopping around the arena covered in bling, but then I remember I did that once and got really bored. Reining, OTHO... hmmm....

The amount of brokenness really impressed me.
Not sour. No. Not at all.
In fact they trail ride their reiners a lot.
Just good and useful broke horses that are incredibly sensitive to aids.
Makes me inspired to make everything I ride that responsive.
Give it a year, I bet I have a little QH in my backyard too, Superminion!!!

Oh yes, that was me with endurance. I got a gaited horse, and it is fun doing just trail. Although cutting and reining is very fun. Cutting especially.
