I am an adult re-rider-- I showed for approx. four years between the ages of 8 and 12 (had to leave due to an injury acquired from a different sport) and am now returning to riding at age 29. I am taking a few lessons to get my feel back at a barn in VA. I am not totally happy with it for a variety of reasons (trainer not the professional quality I am used to, more Western horses than English, etc) and am thinking about leasing a horse beginning this Spring and switching barns. I used to be fearless and jumped fairly high jumps, but am looking for more flat training (some lower jumping is fine) with the goal of eventually participating in flat equitation.
Does anyone have any suggestions within 45 mins of DC?
I think the closest options to you with lesson horses will be Meadowbrook in Chevy Chase, and maybe Cavallo in Virginia. I know people who have done lessons at both of those and been quite pleased. Both Woodland and Reddemeade in Silver Spring have a lesson/lease type program, but I have no personal experience with those programs.
If you are considering leasing, talk to Rolling Acres. They do a great job of leasing horses within the barn for people to ride. Great atmosphere with showing an option. They have some horses used for lessons, but are not solely a "lesson barn".
Meadowbrook would be close but I don't think Miranda Scott is teaching there much anymore and they also lost Sue Wentzel; and they seem to cater more to the Jr. rider than adult riders; if OP is in G'town she'd probably want to venture out more towards Montgomery and Howard County than cross town in PG; if PG is an option for OP I second Lyndi Prettyman
