I would bet that Tucker came from a breeder (Pems are not coming out of the woodwork where I live) and I bet she was not a four-figure dog, either. I'm not sure about her white, for a start (I don't know BHT markings well enough to be sure whether she does or doesn't have disqualifying white) but it probably did not take long to see that in size and teeth (really crowded, crooked lowers) she was not show-quality. Of course, *I* got her for $50 and a $50 refund after the vet notified AC she'd been spayed. Our shelter goes one step farther with that-if you don't get the animal altered in 30 days or have proof there's a medical reason you can't, you lose your $50 AND you get a $300 ticket from Animal Control. Highly motivating.

    I recently adopted a dog from a rescue with a pricetag of ~ $500.

    A bargain.
Included her original fee for pulling from a pound, heartworm treatment (and required bloodwork), spay, microchipping, and transport.

    And she's a peach.

A dog is worth what someone is willing to pay for them. The End.
