If the mods think it's not horse-related they can always just move it to the Menagerie, which is cat-and-dog-related. 2DogsFarm is right, it's the risk we take when they're outdoors. We've lost at least two (possibly three, but there wasn't a mark on the third.) I once stopped in the street one night when I was living in New Hampshire when the driver ahead of me hit a cat. I couldn't do anything but sit with it while it died (very quickly) and I felt guilty even though I wasn't the one who hit it! Heck, I felt awful when I hit a possum one night when there was no possible way to avoid it (late at night, in a snowstorm, where I was already 10 below the speed limit and couldn't see twenty feet ahead). There was no way you could have known she was there though I know that probably doesn't make you feel better. I hope she turns up bruised but none the worse for wear.

Awww sending huge hugs your way

She is so beautiful, she has the caramel swirly stripes on her coat, I love them.

My vet says that cats are amazing, and my own have proven her right time and time again. If those pictures are recent and she is still a young, rubbery kitten, she may just surprise you. I would just keep putting food out, even if for the next couple of weeks, you just never know.

And God willing she does come home, maybe you can keep her indoors from now on? I understand barn cats are meant to be doing the whole barn thing, but she looks like a happy, vessel sink sleeping, curl up on the bed kitty.

You and she will be in my prayers, it is just a freaky thing to happen and regardless of the outcome it is quite obvious she was loved.

I've hit and killed two of my kitties. One was when I found that my dogs had gotten in a major fight with each other and there was arterial damage to one. Threw her in the truck and high tailed it to the vet school, as I took the corner I felt a slight bump but attributed it to the dirt road, discovered the next morning it had been my prego female. She must have heard the truck start up and run towards the house and right in front of me.
The other was a cat born in my closet by a stray that appeared at our house one day. He was the only one we kept out of the litter and he had no fear of cars at all. I know he walked out and lay down in front of my dually when I was loading up the kids and I didn't realize it until I drove off.
It's really a horrible feeling and I know just how you feel.

No sign of Miss Katie. I will continue to keep an eye out, but can't leave food out or our other fatcats will find it. Going home last night was the hardest part, I had really convinved myself that she would be sitting on the porch when we pulled up

Munchingonhay, I'm in Tallahassee and it was still gross and drizzly. And a Monday. Go figure.

Saw a rainbow this morning, though, obviously it's just something caused by the weather, but it made me feel a little better. Thanks for all the jingles, you guys really are the best. Now she will have unlimited fuzzy things to chase and soft blankets to curl up on. Love you kitty katie

Continued jingles. If it was drizzling, maybe she found shelter somewhere and will come home when the rain stops. I hope your beautiful kitty comes home unharmed.

Have you notified vets in your area? Someone could have found her injured and taken her in.

    Talking WE FOUND HER!!!

Can't believe it. We were driving home Saturday night, and had just pulled off the highway. (We live on a dirt road, that turns into a paved road that is a few miles long, that dead ends into the hwy). It was after dark, and right after we turned on to the little paved road, we saw eyes reflecting on the side of the road. Total distance from our house at this point is at least 3 miles. DH slowed down like always, to avoid hitting whatever it was in the road. We pull off, and it's a cat. I'm thinking Aw, it's a little tabby, looks like Katie Well, DH puts the car in park and says "Um, is that Katie? I think that's Katie." I'm thinking there's no way, don't get your hopes up... well he gets out of the car, and says Here kitty kitty kitty. Cat pops her head up out of the ditch. He says "Katie!". And this freaking cat RUNS up the road to DH and starts climbing up his leg like a tree. He grabs Katie and gets back in the car and he says "Don't cry!" well of course I just lost it, I'm boohooing like a baby and Katie is going crazy rubbing on us and meowing and absolutely can't stop snuggling and head bumping and climbing on both of us. She is completely fine-skinny as heck and has a notch in her ear- but no injuries, no broken bones, coat looks great, totally fine. Bless her heart, she just wants to be carried and held and fed lots and lots of food

THANK YOU for all your prayers and jingles!!
