    I think it's a really interesting idea.

That being said, I don't think it would suit my needs. I'm mostly a trail rider these days. I wear a helmet to protect my head from hitting branches as much as to protect my head from hitting the ground.

So when the horse bucks and unseats the rider a bit, but not enough to buck them off and the thing goes "WHOOP" as it inflates because they have come off verticle enough to trigger it... ya, I'm sure that would go well... I'm sticking with my Charles Owen.

Very little actual research has been done in the riding vests. The standards are so poor, my Carhartt Artic Parka actually qualifies as a protective vest.

In terms of a helmet, the parameters are well defined, e.g. maximum forces imparted on the brain.

There are still huge issues with inflatable structures as personal protective devices. The forces imparted on the brain in an inflatable structure must be better defined, particularly rebound etc.

A recent conversation with Roy Burek, CEO of Charles Owen, indicates they are up to date on all the helmet technologies (he is also a member of the ASTM helmet standards committee). I would not trust this technology, as I don't trust air vests as it remains a "fail dangerous" design no matter what.

Eh, I do not mind wearing a helmet, and I think my ventilated Tippary type helmet would be cooler to ride in than having a super bulky hot scarf around my neck and shoulders.
