Just south of the Arctic Circle...seriously

Default Lesson Barns in Aiken, SC?

I checked the search and didn't see quite what I needed and since I know Aiken is a hotspot for eventers, I thought I'd ask here.

I'm a H/J looking for a lesson barn in the Aiken area (I'm living in Augusta). I left my horse back in Washington for the time being so I'd need a place that provides lesson horses. I'm also interested in taking a few dressage lessons to get a more well-rounded education so if anyone knows any good beginner dressage places, I'd love to hear those as well!

    Pretty much horse heaven

People I know who ride with John Abbott are extremely happy with his hunter program. I don't know about lesson horses. His website is

I think Darrell Vaughn at Stable on the Woods has lesson horses:

Laura Hall of Ashbrook Equestrian Center (previously she was at Stable in the Woods) definitely has lesson horses and I've seen her teaching both jumping and dressage:

Mike Sharpe at Belvoir Farm has some lesson horses:

I suspect John is pretty exclusive to the h/j world. The others I've seen coaching at events as well.
    Hindsight bad, foresight good.

John Abbott is fabulous. Start with him. If he can't get you on a horse, he'll know where to send you. Wonderful man.

    too far from the barn

You might also check with Stephanie Von Bidder at Daybreak. I stayed at her place a couple years ago when I was riding with Sally Cousins in Aiken and liked her and thought the barn and horses all looked great. I don't know if she has lesson horses.
OTTBs rule, but spots are good too!

Lellie Ward at Paradise Farm is a great teacher

Contact her. She's very good in all phases.
