During one of the horsemastership clinics...I think 2011:

"I don't care about your happiness, I care about my happiness"...or something along those lines

Said today (to a horse) in his clinic; "You're very beautiful...I hope you have a brain."

"Think people. THINK! Don't be stupid all your lives!"

In one of the horsemastership clinics (and my SOs favorite quote, he thinks GM is a hoot): "Do it right the first time. Your are MADE riders on MADE horses- DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!"

After making someone cry: "You have to break eggs to make an omelet."

GM: "What is that bit in your horse's mouth?"
Rider: "It's a Happy Mouth bit."
GM: (grumbling in disgust) "Happy hands make for a happy mouth."

Speaking of today, is there another session this afternoon on live stream? And/or what time does it start tomorrow?

NM. I found the schedule online.

    "Don't be a dumbbell!"

    "THIN-king! THIN-king!"

And two from my experiences riding with him that I'll always remember-

"This horse has been very well schooled." Said as he got off my Fuzzy Horse- who had been coming off an injury so was enrolled in the 2'6" section. His compatriots were all acting like squirrels and he rose to the occasion marvelously! He really was beautifully schooled- not by me- and would have been happy to give George a line of one-tempis on the straight line if he'd been asked.

"He likes to jump." Said to me when he handed me the reins back after using mine as a demo horse- Tip dislikes flatwork, and disliked George telling him he had to do it, and got Irish. But he really does like to jump, and as soon as George pointed him at the exercise he displayed the attitude that had led him to be used as a demo horse in the first place. This was about the only positive thing that could be said upon giving me my horse back.
"I'm not always sarcastic. Sometimes I'm asleep."

    GM: Is your mare pregnant?
Me: No Sir, just a trakehner easy keeper.
    GM: Are you pregnant?
    Me: No Sir..

"Oh, another of the Desperate Housewives." Said at a clinic that my daughter did this fall. It cracked us all up.

I heard from someone at that clinic that George said, "Live a little you desperate housewife."

In the post clinic analysis, he told one girl "Don't practise eating!"
Me- he looked at me, told me "You are kind of old (I'm 53), and not built to ride (5'6 with short chunky kind of thighs), but a good student and I could do things with you, because you want it!"
Not terribly PC but something I will treasure!
I had a lot of "ahem" older folks come up to me afterwards and even come find me in the barn to tell me what a good job I'd done.
I was happy to have survived.
Not PC but it is George and he meant it as a compliment. I'd probably get it printed on a tshirt.

His variation today: "This is like you at a party. The first one you see, you grab... This is not a good philosophy in life."

"Never comment on something unless you know all of the facts."

“You’re very beautiful. I hope you have a brain, my dear.”

These were all the said the same day on day one:
    - “See people, the ultimate discipline for a horse as you just saw, is forward.”
    - “The reward is to go forward, and the discipline is to go forward.”
    - “You’ll notice I’m obsessive with forward.”

"Young riders in America... What they have to concentrate on is not just lessons and horse shows, the mechanics of riding, the horse show questions... They have to start more basically than that. They have to handle their horses. That's a very weak point in America right now. You just can't be a finished competitor without being a horse person, a horse woman or a horse man, that's very very cosmetic and very shallow today in America. They don't handle their horses, they don't know what goes into horse management. They concentrate on the riding. They don't have the depth and rein." - Germany in 2005. Love this quote because it's SO TRUE. The majority of barns around here focus on the riding and not the care.

“You are your first most important teacher. Your horse is your second most important teacher. The instructor standing on the ground is your third most important teacher.”

“Love means attention, which means looking after the things we love. We call this stable management.”

“Don’t be distracted by criticism. Remember, the only taste of success some people have is when they take a bite out of you.”

I have a bunch. I was only able to watch day one of the clinic and I missed this morning's but I have all day tomorrow to catch up. Super excited.

In one of his clinic videos, to the people auditing:

"Eh, stop clapping, this isn't Hollywood."

After a very heavy, but very precise, rider jumped a course on a hot mare: "This girl is good. She can ride. Do you all see that?"

When an auditor's cell phone rang and she made the mistake of answering it: "Hang up. HANG. UP. This is my ring. If you don't respect me, I won't respect you. I'm leaving now." After she hung up: "Don't ever do that again."
Life would be infinitely better if pinatas suddenly appeared throughout the day.

Didn't he say to someone who was overly enthusiastic about patting their horse, "This isn't Woodstock."
