If chopped is on I am deaf to the world. And Judge Jeffrey zacharian is so hot in a nerdy Jewish sort of way.
I love sweet genius too but not like I love chopped.
My basket would be:
Dill pickles
Bacon
Nut brittle
Any wild game

Chopped is the one show my entire family will sit around and watch.
My basket would need to have some kind of whole fish, a freaky Asian vegetable, jujubes and sour cream
I learned everything I know from a chestnut mare so don't even try me.

Red hots

Fava beans
Pork shoulder

I don't know what's in my Chopped basket. Lately, I seem to have problems with normal stuff. But:
I can't stand the Sweet Genius - that guy bugs the hell out of me for some reason. He reminds me of the guy that had a "mini me" (Bond movie???).
Drivers, Dine Ins and Dives... Good god, could they show that more often?
Chopped is almost as bad as DDaD but ...

Totally with you. The Sweet Genius guy is creepy. I cannot stand 24/7 DD@D, and though I love things like Top Chef, I can't stand Chopped. I don't know what. I can't watch it.
Weirder. I love cooking shows and can't cook at all.

My mom and I have Sunday evening Chopped nights
For my sister's birthday we did it between 4 teams of teenagers, very fun. Everything turned out suprisingly decent. Currently we are prepping for a mini-Chopped between the kids at our friends' house that we are staying at.

I don't know WHY I watch "Chopped" as it's basically "My Least-Favorite Culinary School Exam and the Only One I Bombed: The TV Show!", but I can't help it. (Maybe it's Marcus Samuelson is sometimes on the panel and he's easy on the eyes.) I cannot, btw, remember what exactly was in my mystery basket but I know I had chayote, shrimp, and citrus of some sort for an appetizer (which I WOULD have used for ceviche, if I had all day instead of a half-hour) and had duck breast for an entree. Having spent all my a la carte class in the bake shop running desserts, I more or less choked. However, Chef Jay passed me anyway with a decent grade, probably because of things like how when he tried my pot au creme, he said "Jen, if I weren't married...." Desserts I'm good at.
I do recall watching one episode of Chopped while IM'ing with my brother, who was also watching, and we both commented on on particular dessert basket and how it had stuff with sugar and dairy and how the producers were clearly slipping, you could make a decent dessert out of it. I think my favorite WTF ingredient in a Chopped basket was a Chinese dry-cured sausage in the dessert basket.

I love Chopped, although I know I wouldn't even try many of the ingredients and worse, don't know what many are. I do have favourite judges: Zacharian, Sanchez, and Samuelson.
Sweet Genius is nasty...the host is creepy and annoying and the premise weird even for Food Network. Can take or leave Triple D as it is on several times a day, seven days a week.
I am waiting for Top Chef Canada to start, and I think that happens in the next week or so.
The show I miss - the original Iron Chef

My husband likes Chopped. Interesting show - sometimes I try to come up with dishes in my head, too. My younger son loves Good Eats. I can get behind that - Alton Brown is a hoot.
Don't tell me about what you can't do. That's boring. Show me what you can do. - Mom
