Yup,with the current bill decisions on how to cut spending have been kicked down the road for a couple of months. (ie the sequestration discussions.)
The bill as currently written does block the pay raises for Congress that have been discussed in another thread here.
I wonder if Cantor is setting up to challenge Boehner for the speakership in the next Congress. The Republicans lost eight seats in Nov, but will still be in the majority. (from 242R, 193D to 234R,201D as of Jan 3rd.)
I just heard on the news that the fiscal cliff has been avoided. A deal has been reached which will extend unemployment benefits, continue the tax cuts for the middle class, and not sure about the rest. We dodged a huge bullet.
Happy New Year Everyone!
No Bullet dodged at all. They did NOTHING that will fix the situation. They raised taxes, BUT that money is nothing even close to making up for the continued SPENDING they do.
Spending cuts are just not a BIG deal I guess. I just dont understand it. EVERYONE knows we are in huge debt, but are OK if JUST taxes are raised.
Class warfare, pitting American's against American's, works to distract people from the REAL problem.....THE SPENDING!! I just find it all really sad!
SWL, talk about a picture worth a 1,000 words....thanks for the link!
I like visuals when talking about big numbers. That graph should be tweeted to every member of Congress tonight.
We watched the first few minutes of the CBS evening news and they mentioned the prez's plane is fueled up and on standby to take him back to Hawaii. Gosh that is frustrating, the expenses that generates and whether he is or isn't, makes him appear to be completely out of touch.
Now it appears that the House will vote on the bill - unamended - sometime tonight. There weren't enough votes within the Republican caucus to amend the bill and Boehner will allow the bill to go to the floor for a vote.
