For those of you job hunting- I have to share a positive outcome.
I have been job hunting for the past year and a half. I graduated with a good business degree from a respected college. I have been looking for something career worthy for a long time-and I finally found it.
In the meantime, I have been working retail and "getting by". I tried career builder, craigslist, linked in, cold-applying, and networking. What worked for me? Networking. A very good family friend asked his very first career employer- whom he had a good relationship with, and they happened to have a spot open.
AND I GOT IT!!!!!!!
I think I did the biggest happy dance ever when I found out
Congrats, and thank you for sharing your story! I'm unemployed (laid off from a job I loved just before Thanksgiving) so I'm furiously job hunting, and doing grad school apps at the same time. It's frustrating and infuriating sometimes, but it's nice to hear that there ARE success stories out there.
Congrats. And yes, most of the time the only way to find a new job is your network,so use it. Reconnect using LinkedIn, and make sure your LinkedIn profile is 100% complete. I took a class on it from a career counseling service that was part of my severance package from my former employer. You must get your resume in the hands of the hiring manager.
I'm waiting to hear if I got the job I had two interviews for just before the holidays. Keeping my fingers crossed, as that would be my first bit of good news for the new year.
