Squirrel feeders?
Are there any cool squirrel feeders you all have found that keep 'em busy?
I have feeders out for the birds but usually have a squirrel hanging upside down from my wood pecker feeder eating all of the nuts. I figure that if he can figure it out, more power to him. I'm not offended. BUt I'd like to get something that is FOR the squirrels maybe.

If I was at all talented, I'd make one of these.

Holy crow, I just googled a little further and you can buy the things. But, wow, they're expensive. Do I splurge, or not? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...m?pcatid=11007

You need one of those anti-squirrel models. Don't worry about feeding them because they get more than enough food around here from the wild and people's refuse. Next time you go to Costco or Home Depot, you can probably find something that works for you.

My husband says I'm a good sport, his mom would shoot 'em. LOL. I figure that they are wild critters too and frankly, they give me a lot more entertainment than the sparrows I'm collecting so I'd like to do something for Mr. Squirrel.
That second feeder you linked...wow!

Probably. And raccoons. But not on purpose.

Just for you, Alagirl. (But anyone else can look, too.) This is my back yard last summer.

Let me know! I'm not that handy but DH is and so is DH's Dad. So I could probably get one if I asked REALLY nicely with a pie in hand.

I will! DH will be home as well until Wednesday... I'll challenge him to a race, then we'll put cat treats in it to make sure the weight will hold!

If I'm going to have squirrels (something new to me as we no longer have a dog door) then I'm going to have THE SMARTEST SQUIRREL on the block!
Seriously, I have one and I'm pretty sure it's the same one, he has an unusual marking. I like him. He makes me smile. I see him just outside my kitchen window while I'm cooking and he gives me a good chuckle.

Now you have me going. I just emailed my next door neighbor, who has amazing skilz at this kind of stuff and asked if he would make me one. I'll pay him, of course.

I like squirrels too and chipmunks. I just think that they are adorable.
You'll have to get a picture!

I have a whole peanut ring. It definitely keeps them busy. I found mine at my feed store. I tried one of those corn holder things for squirrels but none of my squirrels seem to like corn.

I grew up with my dad a squirrel addict pretty much. I still love the little critters. I even raised one that had fallen from a nest in a hurricane.
My dad was VERY into making them work for food. He was very handy and would created some pretty involved maze type peanut boxes that involved levers and spinning wheels and doors to open. all with windows so it was QUITE entertaining to watch!
MY favorite was also just a simple spinning wheel that you screw full corn cobs onto that will flip spin pretty darn fast when they leap on. My dad put ours in a tricky spot on big tree. IT was hysterical to watch them leap and go spinning and spinning at what seemed like mach 10. haha. and those little buggers loved it! They would even go for a ride when the corn was out.
