Look at the amount of personal fortitude Mr HL and family have to stand up for thier beliefs when it is so incredible hard. They will spens MILLIONS of dollars to defend their beliefs.

Saying that your higher power trumps the government for this entire nation, inclusive of jews, muslims, hindus and non believers is one of the most self serving narsasistic statements I have ever heard. It is the religious idea such as what you express that makes it so importent to have religion taken out of government. And why I could never support someone who can even think that their god is supreme to all other laws for any position in government.

People have done great harm in the name of their higher power including those that do so against the US. But I would guess that you consider your "higher power" superior to any one else's.

Actually, I think the founders of this country used the higher power clause long before I did. Does, "All men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" ring a bell? It is that phrase from which all of our rights are given. And you will notice, they did not say that the rights are granted by governments or other men but by the Creator. So, according to the Constitution, which was written by men far more wise than I could ever hope to be, the higher power does trump government, because our rights are granted by that power and not by man nor government.

Once we go over the fiscal cliff, part of the money will come from those who can most afford to pay in the form of higher taxes. About a week into the new year, tax cuts for the middle class and poor who cannot afford to pay as much will be introduced and hopefully passed. Obviously, it's difficult and complicated and there is no perfect solution but this one is a step in the right direction.

Good for your church, assuming it is an a very modest building in a working class part of town where real estate is inexpensive and the maximum amount of money can go towards helping other people rather than in operating costs. I never said there were no good Christians who didn't want to help others, just that the posters on this board (and anywhere else) who call themselves Christian - and yet judge others who are struggling - need to stop thinking of themselves as good people, let alone good Christians.

My church is in my preacher's back yard, in between his house and his shop (he lays water line). We look out over his roping arena and a plowed field. It is awesome. I love it, and the people there. His wife says it is an accidental church, lol.

so let's assume for arguments sake, that the prelim decision is rescinded but not until oh.....Feb 1. Does that mean that the feds would have to pay back any monies he paid to cover the fines or are the fines non-refundable?

I guess the creator didn't think women or blacks were entitled to rights since those groups ,among others ,were left out of the original document. Only with the passage of time and change of culture were those groups allowed to participate in this republic. But, then again ,maybe even the Creator changed over time.
