Has anyone ever boarded and/or trained with Laurie Jakubauskas? Just wondering what you thought of her lessons, care and training methods.

I boarded with her for about 6 months in 1998. At that point I had come from an AQHA background and was completely new to the hunter/jumper scene (not to mention I'd moved up to Delaware from Georgia and never boarded before). I only left her barn because I moved my horse when I went to college.

Laurie treated me so kindly! Her barn was kept impeccably and the horses had great care (including plenty of turnout). I had a difficult horse at the time and she was incredibly helpful in our lessons. I loved watching her school her jumpers and she let me take lessons on one of her retired jumpers--those lessons gave me my first taste of "real" jumping and created my love for it.

It's, of course, been many years since then, but I would doubt Laurie's changed at all. If she were closer to me and I was looking for someone to train with in the h/j world, I would seek her out. My horse definitely received the best care and attention at her farm and I was treated very well despite being a real "outsider" to that entire world and not really "fitting" in at first.

I would suggest taking a lesson with her and seeing how you click. That would be helpful in determining if you and your horse fit well into her program.

I've boarded and lessoned with Laurie off and on for many years. I've ridden with several BNTs , and Laurie is THE best teacher of them all. Laurie prefers to ride the jumpers, but installs confidence in both hunter and jumper riders. She has a very positive, but challenging approach. Best of all she loves the animals, from the back yard pony to the Grand Prix jumper.

Love Laurie! While I have never boarded with her I have worked with Laurie on a number of occasions and have found her to be professional and to always have the best interest of the horses, students and the sport as a priority.

She has taught a few lessons for our pony club. She knows when to push, when to hand hold and how to get the best from each child and each horse.

Laurie has been the course designer for our jumper show and the number one goal in her design has been to make challenging courses that will encourage good riding, not speed demon yahooing around. And that really sums her up. For her it IS all about good riding and the journey to get there.

Laurie is a very nice individual all the way around. While in school she came to Otteridge Farm to ride on numerous occasions.

As I recall, Laurie was one of the top juniors on LI in her day. I'm not surprised to be seeing all the good reviews--I have heard only good things since she went south and turned pro.

Thx for all the kind words..this is Laurie..the dressage ? all of my upper level horses can do all the prix st george requirements. Although I do not compete in dressage, i insist upon it no matter what discipline you choose. I was trained in physiology & was a fitness instructor at one time. So I like to think of dressage as necessary..it prolongs the horses well-being to stretch, ect.of course I love to gallop, ect but to get a horse truly engaged only feels like the only way to ride..so yes, I teach dressage & have trained with many Olympic level dressage trainers
