I like a mixed drink here and there but my husband at this point can't drink at all almost, he has bad gout and the pain he gets from a gout attack after he drinks is so not worth it

If you happen to be at the spring Daffodil Arabian Horse Show or the Region 5 Championships Show this year, I may make the lemonade peach idea for a certain client I braid for. I also plan her barn drinks for the rolling barn party, etc. We have been into the mango margaritas, and then a vodka/soda/pomegranate thing but I am thinking... blueberry vodka, peach schnapps and pink lemonade. Frozen blueberries in the ice!! YEAH!! I'll see what she thinks.

With my new job and general life stressors I've started drinking a lot more. I used to only be a social drinker, however now I'm up to 2-3 drinks per night after work, and more on my days off. I don't get sloppy drunk, but am usually pretty happy by the time I'm ready for bed. I figure in my line of work it's well deserved and it at least makes me a little more tolerable after a long day
Wait until you get a week off, skip the evening drinks for three days because you forget about them while enjoying your vacation, and then pour yourself one or two. And your lips get numb.

AHAHAHAH!!!!!! Watch out for those perky eared little AY-rabs, they sneak in and steal your heart! Ten years ago I never would believe that I would be a member of AHA. Never.

Now, I sponsor and volunteer as well as braid. I am doing a Power Point tutorial on braiding that we will put on the Region 5 site in a month or so. One day, after I finish my Bachelor's, I will buy a Half Arab sporthorse and then maybe a super cute little purebred. We'll see.

Arab folks don't just put on a horse show, they throw a party with a horse show attached LOL!!

For those that talk about how good this or that drink is, I have heard from a good source that, after the first one, you really don't care what the next ones taste like, anything will do.

Okay, don't tell them on the H/J forum, but I showed a 7/8 Arab in the local larges as a kid. Amazing horse. And I dabbled in Endurance with an Arab belonging to a friend. Most people just don't like horses smarter than they are!!

Depends on how strong the first one is.

Well, if you slam down a pounder with three or four shots of hooch in it, well, yeah.

But! I am Scandinavian and was raised correctly. One makes special drinks for occasions and does not overserve people or make the drinks too strong. At a BBQ you should be able to enjoy a lemonade peach blueberry drink before, a nice crisp ale like MirrorPond Pale Ale with the food and a coffee drink after. Or another lemony goodness, whichever. We drink a lot of coffee from the womb on (that's why we are short, no one knows why the men are over 6' though and we don't care!).

I've always been a lightweight and can pretty much take or leave most alcohol, though I do enjoy a glass of wine with a meal. Usually if u do drink beer I'll ask for a half-pint or otherwise little serving as much more is just too much for me haha. A nice fresh margarita or sangria is nice in the summer though, I will say

They were talking straight whisky on the rocks.

I was talking about it, and served in the usual Scandinavian rocks glass packed full with ice with one and a half ounces of whiskey with a squeeze of lemon. It is meant to be sipped while enjoying others company.

I used to mix my grandparents before dinner drinks as a child in the 70s. Both liked a whiskey and 7 Up in a tall glass with lots of ice and exactly one jigger and a half of hooch.

    Proper glass-- http://www.pjpmarketplace.com/NORDIC...87&cagpspn=pla

Not like the icky squatty glasses one might find in, say, eastern Europe perhaps???

I usually have a drink maybe once a year, but this year I have been a total lush and had a drink or two probably...6 or 7 times. Guess my Irish genes are fighting me to be true to my heritage. My fave is a combination of Country Time Lemonade, Absolut Citron, and Chambord--SO yummy!! I made a pitcher a few weeks ago for a family get-together and my 87-year-old grandmother absolutely loved it. I had to tell her that it's much stronger than her usual tiny glass of wine or I fear she would have had a 2nd and been totally sloshed.

True that! One time, a friend and I ran out of wine, but she had an old bottle of Sake in the cupboard. It was nasty at first, then it started to taste pretty good, given that there was nothing else there to drink. That was the night she did my hair, and I left with a peroxide blonde doo that scared the bejeepers out of me when I saw my reflection in the glass behind the produce at the grocery store the next morning.

I drank and partied a lot in college. Now...I just can't. I might have an occasional beer or glass of wine, but that's about it. There's no more bouncing back...

Just because it fits in one glass does not mean it is one drink. Here's a comparison chart:

So yeah, after your friend's "one" (eight?) drinks the "second" (sixteenth?) probably wasn't tasting like much.

    That makes sense.
This is the kind of glass he used, with several refills thru the evenings:

I would say, but it is a guess, it was so long ago, about 1/3 or 1/2 of the bottle, something with a bird, turkey maybe in it, every evening?
He gave me some to taste and it was evil stuff, that is when he said it didn't matter after the first drink anyway.

If I was drinking, I think I would like cognac or the fruit liquors better, Countreau and such.
Even Vermouth/Martini (?) is not that bad tasting.

I like best sparkling wines, not Champagne, but can't drink any of it anyway, so it is moot question.

This is a timely discussion, New Years Eve a time most anyone does drink a bit, to a bit too much.

I'm the exact opposite, i'm a bartender as well as volunteering with a saferide program and drunk people make work so fun! We have to be 100% sober for both jobs but I never get offended at things they say/do and I love that they're having a good time.
But if i'm drinking, drunk people annoy the hell out of me and even though I'm probably 10x a more annoying drunk then they are, they still drive me crazy
