Thank you, but I should have apologized in advance.

It bothers me where some confuse break and brakes.
I have to check again to be sure what they meant.

Lately, I tend to use "just" all the time, have to edit myself time and again.
I can understand others may also have their own grammatical quirks.

Might as well add apostrophes to make a plural.

My fellow Grammar Nazi and I were discussing this very thing. We are of the learned and expert opinion that we're seeing more of this because nobody reads any more (okay, and a bit to do with auto-correct and smart phones). So people write what it sounds like.

    Taken for granite
    Miter's touch
    Then/than errors
    Your/You're errors
    Lose/Loose errors

And of course, apostrophe S to pluralize nouns. I saw a marquee at a furniture store the other day that actually said "Lazy boy's $200". I laughed and thought, well maybe they're selling the one lazy boy .

I tend to type slower than I think, and when I proofread my writing, I know what I MEANT to say (I often do things like "but" instead of "put" and the like), so I don't always catch those mistakes (and also leaving whole entire words out because my brain is a sentence ahead of my fingers) when I proofread. Drives me crazy!

I wrote this sentence this morning- "He wouldn't be any fun if he was normal." After I hit send, I have fretted over the fact that I really feel like "were" would be a better option than "was" and it is driving me crazy!!!

Oh my. I guess I should have made my post a little more clear. Yes, I was referring to streaks of electricity from a stormy sky. Granted, they DO "lighten" the sky, though.

Brilliant. I thought of another challenge -my new computer is a lemon and loses my key strokes all the time! This is tough because I type about 65 wpm so I'm halfway down the road before I realize that my keyboard has loused up words by dropping a letter.

JUST got back on COTH this morning to find all these great responses! :-D

kateh, you are spot on; I realized this error after I had started posting under this username, but didn't want to LOSE the posts I had to my credit by changing the spelling, and subsequently having to "begin again" as a brand-new poster.
We all know the assumption about brand-new posters: MUST be a troll!

Now (rolling up sleeves), let's move to the topic--already brought up here--of INAPPROPRIATE USE OF APOSTROPHES!

Try being a HS English teacher... The things I see in papers would make your skin crawl.

My latest, biggest pet peeve is using the apostrophe to make something plural.
