Why would you want to waste your money?

I know the fee isn't much but really, what's the point?

Because if they are to be shown ... It's $35. Better than $200 when they are two! And $35.. That's two feed bags (maybe) worth paying if you think you MIGHT vet show the foal.

    Oh !!
So your young horses don't sell and you'll be showing them yourself.
    Then that makes sense.

And VA bred why is it the way to go?
Anyone who buys your stock can rename it whatever they want and there is no requirement that they list the breeder or even the pedigree.
If the name it came with sucks then for sure it's getting renamed.
Cheaper to record as a new recording than to do the transfer and less paperwork.

Why on earth would you be paying $200 to record a 2 yr old.
That doesn't kick in till they are three.
    Confused much ??

My mistake, I meant to type 3. Still, the price increases as they get older.

AHS automatically takes care of the USEF recording for me.

Now, I apologize in advance for highjacking this thread briefly, but I can't help myself.

S A McKee (is that your real name?), I don't think I can recall a single post that you have ever made on this board that was not rude, confrontational or condescending. I wonder what makes you that way? It must not be very pleasant to go through life just waiting to pounce on others in order to belittle them. So are you Sam or Samatha or ??? McKee, and what do you do in the horse world, other than be irritating?

I find it somewhat hilarious that your favorite pastime (next to being rude to breeders on this board) seems to be checking USEF stats on horses, breeders, etc on USEF, yet you are on this thread advocating against breeders getting their foals USEF recorded when the cost is still quite reasonable. Why is that? I am genuinely curious.

I also wonder why "S A McKee" comes up nowhere in any google search that also mentions horses. That tells me that you don't show or own horses or that you are hiding behind a screen name and not brave enough to be the real you. Fess up.

There are plenty of folks who firmly believe that dear S A is Jill Burnell of Gray Fox Farms. Apparently the attitude, opinions and language are similar.

Oh my. Really? Why wouldn't the mods have picked that up by now?

And remember it is "Gray Fox" not "Grey Fox", which is legit.

I believe the mods looked into it but couldn't verify. There was a post about it on the Jill Burnell thread awhile ago.

And thanks for the reminder about GFF ! I fixed it.

I will speak for myself and my program. I include the life time registration in the purchase price of my foals. I put together all the paper work for the owners so that I can make sure that I am listed as breeder and that the sire and dam are listed as well. Not all buyers will take the time to include it and it is important to me to have it done. So for 35 dollars it just makes sense for me to do it. Most of ours will show on the line with their new owners so in the long rin it saes them money as well.
To each their own though. If you don't see the value, by all means do do it.

True, but I was genuinely curious to see if old Sammy would have the guts to answer my questions. I also realize that life IS too short. Just wanted to see if Sammy wanted to establish some credibility. Not happening, I guess. Question answered. Sigh...

Are you always such a Jerk? What do you care if people want to register their foals? Please do us all a favor and find a new place to hang out. Your contributions here are unwanted.
Oh, and good of you to encourage people to do things against the rules when it comes to recorded horses.

We are sending in our 5 babies tomorrow. Every youngster sold off this place has a lifetime USEF #. $35.00 is pretty darn cheap.

S A McKee never posts anything useful and may be the most unpleasant person on the board that has not been banned. I hope that she gets something out of this--perhaps being nasty here makes her real life relationships run more smoothly--because the rest of us sure as hell don't get anything out of her posts.

FWIW, I wish someone had registered my two year old with the USEF when she was a baby. She's three in the spring and MAN is it expensive at this point.

lol I have to agree. I've been on the COTH for a very long time and S A McKee has always been a wet blanket. Some people are just happy being miserable...or happy when they can make everyone else around them miserable too I just choose to ignore it. Although, I do feel very sad for her/him. I just cannot imagine being that unhappy or miserable. Life is too short!

We register our foals with USEF. As everyone else said, much cheaper to do it when it's $35. Hopefully, the new owners are happy with the names we choose, and then they don't have to spend a dime later to register with USEF. We register our Pony Hunter foals with USEF, and we're finding more and more buyers are interested in keeping the original names, along with the breeders prefix.

Over the years, we have decided to keep two of our foals that we hadn't originally planned to keep. I'm glad I spent the $35 when I did and didn't have to worry about $200 for registration a few years later.

At the end of the day, I guess it's my decision whether I decide to waste $35 or not! Apparently I have too much time and money on my hands.
