One thing that is really @!#)$*)@*#$ me off about this computer is that the OS is Windows 8 - it is AWFUL. Not user friendly or intuitive at all. WTF?! Any suggestions there???

Google "tips for windows 8" and start reading. There are work arounds or settings you can change that will make the OS much easier for you to use.

Or return it for a Windows 7 machine.

Microsoft offers a lot of free tutorials online. Is there something in particular that you're having trouble with? I'm not very familiar w/ Win8 so I'm no help.

Its like a giant smart phone screen...not like a "traditional" computer OS at all!!! It gives me a headache just thinking about trying to figure it out...

My mom got me this for a christmas present. She had a computer savvy friend order it. My mom is going to pull out the paperwork and see about trading this in for a Windows 7 model.

Do they usually exhange them when the computer has been opened and turned on?

If you don't like Windows 8, the only solution is to go backwards to Windows 7. Lots of people are doing exactly that with their holiday computers.

Lex - I believe from other stuff I have read recently, that you can only downgrade to 7 if you are currently using Windows 8 Pro version...I am not, just regular 8. So, I'd have to buy the upgrade to Pro, to buy the downgrade to 7...

It would probably be cheaper to exchange the computer for one with 7 alraedy on it...and if the store won't take this computer back, just sell it!

You are incorrect. You simply install Windows 7 over Windows 8 using the product I linked to , which is an OEM/System builder installation license, wiping out the factory installation of Windows 8 and the bloat software from the manufacturer. There's nothing to it but to do it!

I am hoping I can skip windows 8...meaning I won't kill this computer for the time being....

A bit of a spin off, but does anyone have a suggestion to get rid of that stupid "Drop Down Coupon" thing that highlights a bit of text and pops up an ad? It also spams my FB with ads... I've tried to get rid of it (deleting all my cookies etc) helps, but it seems to keep coming back. I use Windows XP and FireFox, if that changes what I should be trying to do...

THIS, and MalwareBytes. Both are free and both are great.

I use Unthreat Antivirus and I'm happy with it. It's a free antivirus and it keeps my computer clean and doesn't slow it down while scanning, so I can keep surfing the net while it's working. I recommend it!

Malwarebytes is the best anywhere; it does not overload your computer with garbage like Norton and McAfee. Nor does Malwarebytes constantly SPAM your email like they do. I paid their nominal fee to get the real-time scanning. They are far and away better than the "big" names.
