We've fed Fescue for years (in NC at the NC/SCborder), why don't you want to feed it? Only time we switch is when we have a pregnant mare. My BO is not fond of Coastal, had a few colics including losing a favorite to a colic related to Coastal. But lots of people swear by it.
Welcome to the southeast! If you want something other than fescue or coastal you will have to go to aiken or tryon and buy it from a hay distributor. Unless you can get someone to go in on a load with you.
Always remember that "perfection" is the mortal enemy of "excellence."
Here in Tryon we only have fescue and some orchard grass that grow reliably in our area; winters get too cold for coastal. But we have several distributors that have timothy, alfalfa, etc., brought in from NY state and elsewhere. I feed primarily fescue.
It's just grass and water till it hits the ground.
