I had to try to explain to a couple of non-native Alabamians how one could not pull for 'both' teams, but had to pick sides.

Daughter of a mixed-marriage, Moma is Auburn, Daddy was Alabama.

I am rooting for Bama and expecting a pretty tough game. ND is good and they are confident which means they are coming to "play". Just hope Sabin has everyone's head in this game.

As we say in South Bend ... Jesus doesn't care about football, but his mother does.

    Go Irish!

FWIW, my three year old learned all the words to the Notre Dame fight song in preschool. This town lives and breathes Irish football.

Had not heard that but will spread it around my "Irish" family

ND here. My father graduated in '29 - was in the marching band when Knute Rockne was coach. Every fall weekend of my life we were required to sit in front of the tube watching "the game".

I've had a passing interest until this year. Which changed because the rest of our family has a very renewed interest. We have the same surname as one of their players, so some think we are suddenly related. My brother and SIL even went out to South Bend for one of the games.

So I'm guessing my dad is helping to orchestrate things from up above. And it's nice to see them in the BCS game. Will definitely be watching.

Growing up Methodist in Georgia I was always a big Notre Dame fan. Having lived the last 20-something years in Alabama, I am hoping Notre Dame will win this one. I myself am an Auburn fan (and alumna) so that is another reason I want Notre Dame to win. The last time I know of that Alabama played Notre Dame, the Sugar Bowl of 197?, one of the bookstores in Auburn sold orange and blue bumper stickers with a green and white insert (why not gold and blue, I don't know) that said "I'm an IRISH War Eagle."
Well, so I am. Episcopalian these days, and back home in Georgia, but still hoping Notre Dame will win.

CVPeg, you sound about my vintage. My father graduated from Auburn only a few years after yours graduated from ND.

I live in a mixed marriage, which as of today has lasted 32 years .

I went to Auburn, as per my screen name, and my DH graduated from the U of A's Law School.

For the first 10 years of our marriage, we could not watch the Auburn/AL game in the same house. We eventually progressed to different rooms in the same house, until today, when we can watch in the same room.

Because of my age, I have mellowed. I want the trophy to stay in the state of AL. If Bama does pull off the win, then the trophy will have stayed in state for four years! Yes. I do count the 2010 Auburn Victory.

This year, my team was down in the dumpster. Because of this, I pulled for Alabama to beat Georgia. I will pull for them against Notre Dame, too.

It still kind of bugs me that I cannot find anyone, who went to Bama, who can sing all of the words to their fight song. Anybody?

Texas Aggie chiming in here to say Roll Tide!

Which may have just caused my Catholic grandparents to roll over in their graves.

DH put a $100 bet on ND to beat Bama

I hate gambling and am a SEC fan so I'll be ticked either way - ND wins, the SEC loses and if Bama wins we're out $100!

I have no dog in this fight, as I don't watch college (or pro) football, but given that my fiancee is a graduate of Alabama, I feel compelled to say "roll tide, roll"

While the coaches and players for Alabama and Notre Dame have maintained a respectful tone in the buildup to the BCS National Championship Game, fans of the two sides have engaged in plenty of trash-talk. But I still hope that it would be Alabama at the end to Win the Title.

Well, actually the fans here have been quite civil. Sports talk radio, however, is a whole different story.

As a non-Catholic who gets her health care on ND's plan and is actually affected by what carol is talking about, it's far from a secret BC isn't covered well before anyone decides to take a job/attend/etc. So while I fully support access to BC for everyone, I can't see what all the fuss is about. If it bothers you so much, work for (or attend) a non-Catholic institution.

Anyway, back to the football. I agree that the Irish are underdogs but hey, what's the fun in winning if you are a sure thing?

I think it's been civil down here b/c we haven't paid ND a lot of attention. Imagine what it would sound like if we were playing LSU again?
