    Default I hate this netbook

I got this little samsung netbook for travelling, and I hate it! Wondering if I would like to get a tablet, or do I want another regular size laptop. I hate being away from my giant desktop, but it looks like I will be away from home for at least another month. Might try to hit up an after christmas sale.

So the question is, do you have a laptop or a tablet and why? I really only do email, FB and Coth, but this thing drives me nuts.

I sympathize. I had a netbook that I hated...ended up giving it to a friend that needed a computer and couldn't afford one.

I have no input on tablets though, sorry. There was a good thread on TOC about them

I hate my netbook too, I only use it for traveling, my laptop is too big to bring. I think about a tablet, not sure I want to spend that much $$ to do the things you mention. I think a netbook is less likely to get stolen, whereas a tablet just screams "take me".

Next year, there will be tons of netbook sized models with all the features you could want and horsepower to rival a desktop.

Isn't it funny how decided one can be about technology preferences? Mr. L got us a Motorola Xoom tablet when I was hating on my laptop. I immediately abhored the thing. Got myself a Kindle Fire (which I love), and Mr. L got us a new Dell laptop (under $600) that I LOVE.

You cant beat the Kindle Fire for the price, size, and use-ability, IMO.

next question....drop-ability and crush-ability. I am a total bull in a china shop with electronics. I like that you can close a laptop, at least protecting the screen somewhat.

Lex??? Next year as in 6 days or 12 months???

I have a Kindle Fire HD that I hate trying to type on. Surfing - fine, but typing - I suck! But I'm not a huge texter so that may be part of it. I like a real keyboard.

Next year as in several months time from now. That's when new CPUs are coming out and the stuff shown at CES in a week or so will be available to buy. I'm holding out on all hardware purchases until then.

They have sales galore right now but nothing really portable is on sale. You're gonna pay a premium for something that's going to be not only obsolete in a few months but significantly depreciated in value. Is there a particular reason why the netbook doesn't do it for you?

What, exactly, do you hate about your netbook? Too small? Too underpowered? What?

Tough to give advice without knowing

it is too small....and for whatever reason fb messaging and chat have quit working on it (they work on my phone, but almost no signal out here at the farm). It often locks up for no apparent reason(been doing that for a year or so). I cant read my pm on COTH on it (recent development I think) Hmmm just had a thought, wonder if I change some size stuff around it might work? (lovely 6 yr old boy got on it at the barn while I was watching indoors and changed some stuff around that I have no idea how to change back)

I suppose I shoud just be patient now that I know the technolgy change is imminent. I am a technotard but I do like to be smart about purchases.

It could probably use a system wipe and tune-up. Putting in some memory - which is dirt cheap these days - would go a long way towards making it better and putting in a low-end SSD if it doesn't already use one is also a big improvement.

We have an Ipad WITH an Otterbox cover. The Otterbox does a great job of protecting the delicate Ipad. Ipad= easy surfing, Email & photots.

I am seriously considering a Microsoft Surface tablet when the new and improved version comes out in 2013. I've heard good things from a couple people who have them now and it seems like the next version will have sufficient computing power to meet my business travel needs, be small enough to travel with easily, and they come with a real keyboard.

It's when every major consumer electronics company puts their new and upcoming and experimental products on display for consumers to see. Computers, TVs, phones, home audio, automotive technology, cameras, and even watches.
