This year the holidays were looking pretty bleak. November 9th, I was unexpectedly laid off from my job, and then on the 12th, my big red heart horse of 10 years colicked. he fought hard, but I lost him on the 13th. So this holiday season was my first horseless holiday in my 29 years.
I am lucky to have amazing friends who have been generous in sharing their horses with me... but... you know how it's just not quite the same, going from having yours who just kind of takes up a huge chunk of real estate in your heart. I've just kind of been feeling like the biggest, best part of my soul had gone missing.
Two days ago, I woke up to a text to call my friend, Anna.
So... I did.
Her boyfriend was my gelding's farrier. They had been talking the previous night... and he asked how I was doing since I lost my big horse. Anna told him the truth...
Well, he has been super busy with shoeing- he barely has time to keep up with paying training horses. He owns a 5yo son of Catalyst. 17hh+ flaxen chestnut gelding. Not finished yet but well started under saddle. Likes him a lot but doesn't really have a use for him- too big and too green to teach lessons on, and they have people wanting to bring in training horses... so.... Merry Christmas to me, he's mine if I want him.
And at this point, I pretty much start bawling for the next 24 hours. ;-)
Yesterday I went to the barn, and my friend and her boyfriend walked him into the barn wearing a big bow around his neck and my heart absolutely MELTED.
His barn name is Stewie. He's big and blonde and such a BABY. Hasn't seen much of the world
I am just completely in AWE of the generosity of my friends.
He's not registered yet. I have to pay off his sire's owner as he's still owed the stud fee. But... I know what I'm registering him as. Last Cookie
Because... my friend and I have been giggling over the cookie monster meme for the past year... http://iwastesomuchtime.com/on/?i=50534
Fix the pictures, you jerk! How dare you post such an adorable photo without insuring that the links work!?! You have a very generous friend.
