Opinions on OTTB mare - pedigree + photos included
16H 6 year old TB mare, registered w/papers. w/t/c under saddle, done small jumps and trail ridden. Prospective career would be eventing. Unraced (I know the history, not suspicious). Clean legged, sound, no vices.
Laurie, I didn't mean to offend. In my experience the TB's that end up in these situations from racing homes are not from the nicer racing stables. The statement I made did make it seem more general, but I know there are plenty of racing stables that genuinely care about the outcomes of each horse they breed and/or train.
She is a very nice looking mare indeed. I picked up dozens of lovely mares like yours throughout the past 20 years and had great success with them. I also ended up breeding most of them right away because:
1) they took a little longer to train to reach higher levels - so they might as well do something productive as well through the process
2) I did find that carrying a foal matured these mares nicely both mentally and physically.
3) in several cases I sold the foals after people saw the dam compete
4) a breeding like this ended up producing my stallion, Lotus T who became the best horse I have ever ridden over a 25-year professional career on two continents and who became the best producing stallion I have ever seen.
