    Default escalation of Christmas gift giving

    escalation of Christmas gift giving....last year, our horses gave the neighbors horses a basket of jumbo carrots... this afternoon I come home to find 500# of hay setting in the driveway with a note from my neighbor's horses to our horses

    (how big was that basket? Flatbed size?)

    I will pickup a 50# bag of the carrots and crate of apples from the farmers market for their horses from ours

    I hope these horses haven't read Marcel Mauss' anthropological study of potlatch. In these gift-giving economies, the escalation ends when the poorer guy who can't up in the next round of gift-giving has to commit suicide!

    Get a huge crate of apples, just to be safe.

    I would be in ICU...not because of beating Lukas, but being the longshot! (yes, we one a race with the payoff being something like 150 per ticket...I think 2 bucks at the time....)

    But that certainly puts one in a charitable mood!

    Danele is our neighbor; we (mainly our daugher ~Amiee) cover for her horses when she is out of town plus we swap medical supplies back and forth ... we are just a few houses away from her
