Default Why can't I get Anihist?

My horse has been doing well on Smartbreathe, but lately the mold count has been extremely high and it has been very windy, so his breathing and coughing have worsened. I pulled out a tub of Anihist and it really seemed to help him.

Just tried to find more on-line and no one has it in stock. Anyone know why? I emailed the company, but might get a faster or better answer here.
Rest in peace Claudius, we will miss you.

There was another thread on this recently...

Apparently, the production has been suspended for a few months.

    I hope this information helps!

I'm another Anihist fan. My horse has seasonal coughing with dust and mold the usual cause. My first go to product is Cough Free for the dry cough as it starts. That usually takes care of it, but if it doesn't I use Anihist. I'm glad I had a container this fall in my stock - it really knocked it out.

You may want to talk to your vet and see if they recommend any other OTC product if you can't get Anihist now.

OMG, I was just thinking the same thing! I'm down to just a week or two's worth and am afraid to try anything different (btw, my horse is already on high dosage MSM). If anyone comes up with a good alternative, please post it!

I did get a nice note from the manufacturer, the same one as in the thread referenced in the second post above, saying that it should be on sale again in January. Sure hope so, it seems to help my guy when the molds and winds get really high. Maybe I will have to give him Mucinex!

I think I saw some on the shelf at Tractor Supply the last time I was there. Did you want me to pick it up for you?

Histall does not have the expectorant ingredient. (guafanesin)

Hist-EQ Powder is exactly the same, but seems to be sold through vets.

Tri Hist has pseudoephedrine instead of guafenesin.

They all have Pyrilamine Maleate U.S.P. 600 mg which should require a prescription. Maybe that is why Anihist was withdrawn ?

I think that pyrilamine maleate is an antihistamine and
guafenesin is an expectorant. Pseudoephedrine is a
decongestant. Since pyrilamine maleate is an over
the counter drug and so is guafanesin, you may be
able to get a helpful local pharmacist to compound
your own replacement for Anihist if you need to.

I think pyrilamine maleate requires a prescription. Guafenesin and pseodoephedrine do not.
