Default Tell me about your Digital (nikon) cameras?

I'm looking for a camera to use to take pictures. (duh. ha)

Specifically, something that is a step above a little digital camera, that is still easy to use, has a fast shutter speed, etc for taking pictures of horses for sale ads and whatnot.
I'm a pretty much an amateur at taking photos, but I have a good eye.
I've used other people's Nikon in the past and have really liked them.

I've been looking at refurbished Nikon L810's ( http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikon...ctID.258569800 ) as they seem to fit what I'm looking for. I'll probably buy refurbished because I can get something a little nicer for a little bit less.

Does anyone have any experience with this camera and taking photos of moving objects or have any other suggestions?
    Thanks!
    -Chelsie

    I don't have any advice.

But I did want to stop in and say...Hey Mickey, you're so fine. You're so fine you blow my mind.

    Cool screen name!

If you don't have an investment in Nikon lenses, might also want to research the Nikon1. Mirrorless camera and the Nikon1 let's you shoot still, video plus a version of video that makes it easier to pull a still shot from the video. Also has some interchangeable lenses but not compatible with the Nikon DSLR cameras.

We have an L810 at work and it's truly awful. Slow, slow, slow - takes forever to focus, has the shutter speed of a narcoleptic tortoise. It's possible that ours is a quality control failure, but there's really nothing good I can say about it and I would hate to try using it for any kind of action photography.

My advice is to keep looking!

If you need a fast shutter speed you are going to have to go at least as high as a Nikon D40 (but the D40 won't use all the old Nikon lenses. A D50 will.). Must be a DSLR.

You can usually find a decent D50, D90 or D200 used from someone moving up.

Just a quick look in my area on Craigslist shows:

    http://houston.craigslist.org/pho/3489888241.html D40 with lenses for $300

    http://houston.craigslist.org/pho/3472744802.html D90 like new in box $500

    http://houston.craigslist.org/pho/3485826747.html D40x with lens $250

    http://houston.craigslist.org/pho/3450523128.html D200 body $400

    http://houston.craigslist.org/pho/3480974410.html mint D50 with lens $$250

    etc
