So they both have great taste! Tell them that if you must, I am sure they would get a laugh from it. I think you are worrying about this way too much.

Can you modify one with paint or something to make it look different? Then keep it for when his little friends come over and they can each play with one.

I`d name one gift from both gifters and regift to charity. There are so many children who don`t get gifts this time of year that it could be the difference between a child receiving or not receiving a gift.
Or call the gifters and ask what they`d like you to do, giving them the options you listed here.
