Can I have some of the famous COTH jingles for my pony????
Got to the barn this afternoon to ride, only to find myself a colicky pony. He wasn't horrid, but he was trying to roll, refusing to eat, and his heart rate and respirations were significantly increased. He was also REALLY noisy on his left side and really quiet on his right.
I promptly called the vet to give her a heads up, and squirted 10cc's of banamine down his throat. Then we went for a long, slow walk. He pooped about 20 minutes after he got the banamine. Yay for that! Once the banamine really kicked in, he started eating. I gave him a very sloppy beet pulp/alfalfa pellet mush, and soaked him a couple of flakes of alfalfa hay, then went home.
When I got to the barn to check on him at 9pm, he had only eaten about a 1/4 of a flake of alfalfa, and most significantly, hadn't drank ANY water at all. He normally drinks almost 10 gallons over night, so that is very odd for him. He wasn't painful, but he was very dull and he wasn't being a pest. He had pooped twice in his stall, but it was dry looking. I hemmed and hawed a bit, then decided I'd feel better calling the vet out tonight.
She sedated him, then tubed him with water and oil, and did a rectal. He was very dry. She was hopeful that water and oil in the tummy is all he will need, but there is a chance that he may need some IV fluids in the morning.
I left him at the barn, stoned, with no food. I am truely hoping that he is mad as heck come morning that he went ALL NIGHT WITH NO FOOD!!!!!!
So, if anyone cares to send jingles, Merlin would surely appreciate them. So would I. Thanks.

Jingles for your pony. Fingers crossed that he is mad as heck in the morning demanding immediate food and apologies. And that he drinks lots of water.
