Kind of the opposite for me. I may disagree with a popular poster or post but I don't want to be forever remembered on COTH as the heartless bitch who posted "I disagree!", so I will give a little anonymous thumb. Also, someone may be brave enough to post an unpopular (by COTH standards) opinion and I want to give them a secret high-five.
I'm not too disturbed or encouraged by receiving thumbs, as I have hit too many accidentally for it to carry any weight with me.

Honestly, you're taking it too seriously,OP. If you're comfortable with yourself and your opinions, why does it matter so much? Own them and f*** everyone else, and their little thumbs too.
For the record, I don't censor myself because someone may, horror of horrors, not agree with me and push the little red thumb. That's just stupid. I also haven't thumb downed one of your posts, OP.

Drop the fear and join the high-five club, sistah!
Anyone worth her salt can appreciate a reasoned and non-dickhead expression of disagreement.

Maybe. Although I also think that with so many TUp, that's served to encourage people who push out a conversational pawn, so to speak, and comment on something and receive encouragement for doing so and if their comment is accurate or witty or funny or full of information, usually it gets a lot of positive hits and therefore encourages more of the same.
IME of seeing what TDown I received and what TDown I've seen others receive, I totally get that people are either disagreeing with me (perfectly fine, that's what we're here for, to agree & disagree, it's the dialogue that's important), or else the post no matter who wrote it was an a-hole post.

Hopefully. I keep getting down notifications for posts that don't say enough of anything to down them. I guess people are bored?

It's this kind of statement that I'm sure will make people TD the post I quoted and probably your KFC one...it comes across as a "I dare you to thumb down this/that post". So people are going to TD it/them, just because it comes across as kind of a "Poor picked on me"/dare you to TD it, type of post. The fact that your regular posts get TU, but just these type gets TD shows you that it's not that they dislike you, it's just how these types of posts draw reactions. People dislike "poor me...people are mean" type of posts. But they are finding your other non-OT type posts useful/enjoyable/agreeable.

I think some people are just teasing you now, AliCat. But really, only 2 people ThumbsDown and there are how many posting on this thread with probably lots more reading it? I think there are a couple teasing you now. And I thought your "longer leash" post was funny.

See, when you post stuff like this, it's as if you are walking around with a kick me sign on you. If you would stop doing the "Mom...He's touching me" type of posts, people would stop TDing the posts.

Over reacting? This is a thread about why people use the TD. I have gotten hundreds of TD's about this thread, and a couple dozen intelligent responses.
Posting up how many "bad post" ratings I have gotten most certainly is relevant to the discussion.

If you stated your opinion, you don't actually have to keep coming into the thread. No need for another emoticon. Simple problems, simple solutions.
