    Default Opinions on OTTB!

    Hey guys!

I am not in NEED of an OTTB but am looking for a good situation to play with while my mare heals (6 months+) and then for resale (unless I fall in love )

I was hoping for some feedback!

16 hand 5 year old gelding, raced 3 times I believe, complete failure. Sat in a field without a job then bought about a month ago by a cutting trainer (who has experience with eventers)but she needs surgery and offered him to me cheap cheap cheap (i.e., cheaper than most CANTER horses).

He has TWO weeks of post-track training under his belt and last week was a ref horse for a polo game (so, clearly a good brain!).

To ride he was super sweet and willing, stays exactly the speed I put him at, all the basics are easy (trailer, washing, clipping, etc.). Obviously needs to relax in his back at the trot and balance, yadda yadda, but reminder: two weeks of post-track training.

I can't see your facebook pics, but he looks quiet and sound on the video.

I like him. He has AP Indy, Hoist the Flag, Roberto and The Minstral in his bloodlines. The last two, being on the Dam's side is nice. If he is a steal, then go for him.

His shoulders looked a bit tight on the video, but there are plenty of exercises that can loosen them up.

If he is for resale, make certain that you have him vetted, even if he is a steal.

    Lucky you!

He's lovely! I'd take him for resale in a heart beat! Seems to have an incredible willing attitude.

Thanks everyone, yeah, that is part of the deal. Typically I haven't done pre purchase exams but I'm more cautious in my old age

I usually nix these, especially for short term resale. Not here. He is far enough along you can put some polish on him in a hurry and see what he wants to do. He is attractive and seems a nice mover so there are several directions you could take with him.

That color won't hurt your resale plans either but I would suggest putting a stick on him if you are going to advertise him at 16h.

He is moving level and square here, some of them have so much going on a PPE would be a waste of time and money. But this one looks to be worth a good look in a PPE because he looks like a good, basically sound horse with a bright future.

    Good luck.

Good luck! Here's hoping for resale-friendly x-rays. (Even if we all think you're going to fall in love!)
My horse is a dressage diva so I don't have to be.
