I was watching HRTV or TVG the other day and for one of the races most of the owners were listed as the trainer. I forget which track, though.

Is that more common at smaller tracks? Very common?

Don't even bother arguing with negative Nancy. If a trainer doesn't have enough faith in their abilities to put their own money where their mouth is THAT is a place to keep away from.

I laughed at that too. We own and train most of our horses.
It is nice to keep owner noses out of condition books. That way
the horses run when we feel they are ready. Not when the owner
does.

Maybe you should have put the puke in the hands of a competent trainer? Personally if I couldn't at least teach one to lead properly I'd not broadcast it on the internet. For most folks with rudimentary horsemanship skills is somewhat of an embarrassment to say the least. What was the trick to walking him to and from the machine? paddock? On second though never mind. What you said already speaks volumes.

How often do Owner/Trainers get to the top of the standings?

Start with Jerry Hollendorfer and Bruce Headley.

Owner trainers dont often get to the top of the owner and trainer standings, because they dont own or train hundreds of horses. They generally have just a few horses because its expensive, unless they hit with a nice stakes horse, and there have been HUNDREDS of good stakes horses trained by owner/trainers.
