tracks where many of the owners are listed as the trainer
I was watching HRTV or TVG the other day and for one of the races most of the owners were listed as the trainer. I forget which track, though.
Is that more common at smaller tracks? Very common?
Thanks.

I owned most of the horses I raced over the past twenty years and was also their trainer. I would say it is incredibly common.

Is pretty common at bottom level claiming and gyp tracks.
Is one of the 2 things you should look for as indicators of a place to keep away from.
The other thing being mechanical walking machines. Good tracks you wont see them either.

'Literally made me lol. 'As if all trainer/owners are seedy. 'As if nothing sketchy has ever happened at Keeneland or Saratoga.

Don't even bother arguing with negative Nancy. If a trainer doesn't have enough faith in their abilities to put their own money where their mouth is THAT is a place to keep away from.

Oh yeah, sure sign of a barbaric society. You know our knuckles drag the ground and we beat our horses over the heads with our clubs...

I laughed at that too. We own and train most of our horses.
It is nice to keep owner noses out of condition books. That way
the horses run when we feel they are ready. Not when the owner
does.

It's funny that my multiple stakes winner went on the walking machine every morning. Try to hot walk him and he would kill you and himself. Put him on the walker and he walked around like a pony.
He made a lot of money at those "gyp" tracks with owner/trainers and mechanical walkers.

Sounds like the same walker my horses have used.
What a snob.

I think Profidia's statement was one of the most offensive I have seen on these boards in awhile. It defies both logic and polite words.

Maybe you should have put the puke in the hands of a competent trainer? Personally if I couldn't at least teach one to lead properly I'd not broadcast it on the internet. For most folks with rudimentary horsemanship skills is somewhat of an embarrassment to say the least. What was the trick to walking him to and from the machine? paddock? On second though never mind. What you said already speaks volumes.

Profidia is already on my list of "those that have no clue", so not much surprising here.

Ok so I see just as I figured the cowboy hat crowd is annoyed at my pointing out the obvious.
Can any of you county fair folks point out to me which of these trainers owns any of the horses in his barn? or which of these horses are owned by the guy training him/her?

How often do Owner/Trainers get to the top of the standings?

I apologize. Calling you stupid was an insult to stupid people.
Start with Jerry Hollendorfer and Bruce Headley.
Owner trainers dont often get to the top of the owner and trainer standings, because they dont own or train hundreds of horses. They generally have just a few horses because its expensive, unless they hit with a nice stakes horse, and there have been HUNDREDS of good stakes horses trained by owner/trainers.
