I am in desperate need of a wall mounted horse blanket rack. I know there are lots of them out there on the market but they can be expensive for what you get.

Any ideas for substitutions or homemade ideas?

I've make several like this drilling holes in wooden dowels (or broomstick handles) and running rope through. If you want something to mount to the wall and don't have a welder in the family, you could go to the PVC aisle and see what kind of fittings you could glue together and screw to the wall.

go snoop around behind the local flooring/carpet stores...there should be some discarded display racks just hanging around back there

Did you put screws through the dowels from behind or do they stay without screws?

They stay in okay without screws. I would have angled the holes for the dowels a bit upwards had a really thought the whole project through instead of rushing headlong in to it in a fit of blanket organizing mania.

LOL....that is where I am right now.....fit of blanket organizing mania!! I think that I am going to try this on my Christmas vacation!! Thanks for the idea!

Our "new" house has a pegboard and hooks for tool storage in the shed. It makes a GREAT blanket rack with all the hooks. My husband didn't appreciate that I commandeered it before he could unpack his tools.

Maybe it won't have enough airflow for you, but I just hang mine from hooks on the wall in my barn. I have some Stubbs rubber covered hooks that are kind of flat (so no points to puncture or tear) up on one wall high enough I can barely reach them, so maybe 7' high? Hang blanket from wither. Works well for me. I actually bought a rack kind of like you posted, but never used it as I didn't ever have a need, as my hooks work.

Horsepoor, I did consider hooks, they are a good idea. But with the system I did there is more air flow and I can hang three light blankets or two heavy ones on each dowel.

My really getto set-up is using a saw horse for blankets and saddle . . It ain't pretty but it works since I only have two horses.

Loving the idea's as I'm getting my tack room reorganized.

I made mine but using pvc T couplers stacked onto a wood dowel. I pit a piece of pvc pipe into each center T section and got something similar to the one from chick's but not metal of course. Painted it barn color and mounted against the wall with C bracket. The arms swing, there are 20 arms on the one for saddle pads. Cant recall how many arms on the blanket one,just used heavier pvc pipe.

Easy quick cheap, plus I can swing apart the arms for the wet saddle pads to dry.
