I saw him at a join-up demo back in the late 1990s. He actually said that his book was the greatest ever written. THE GREATEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN. How can anyone who says something like be taken seriously?

Why would he need to do that? Monty Roberts is perfect. He has nothing to repent.
I'm sure he was training them because he and God are tight, likethis.
To be loved by a horse should fill us with awe, for we hath not deserved it.

I'm pretty sure the Jesus Monty was speaking of actually trains Monty's horses, and probably does the barn chores too. In exchage for Monte holding Jesus' work visa in the Roberts safe deposit box for safekeeping ... safe even from Jesus getting it back.

Arguing with trolls is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good I am at chess the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces crap on the board and strut around like it is victorious.

Has it gotten so bad for Monty that the only paying gig he can get is training mechanical horses? I pretty much gave up on the guy when watching his video he's saying how he's working w/ this wild mustang -never touched by humans until that very moment. Hmm well then explain the lovely pulled mane and shoes.?

Not to dismiss many of these posts, but is it possible.. just maybe.. this poor old horseman is a little compromised in some way, but his handlers either have not or cannot stop him?
You guys make him sound like evil incarnate.
I'm thinking senior dementia.

Aargh! Monty Roberts! Sorry if this is long, but it requires explanation.
I had a horse that was a grouch. Just the way he was (tack fit and health were all checked. He was fine. Just a grouch.) He had his space, you had yours. Leave him alone, feed him. Minimal grooming (don't touch me!). Nevertheless, his ground manners were good and he would TOLERATE grooming, and once you were on his back he was one of the most trustworthy horses I've ever owned. Terrific jumper/event horse. Less good at dressage, since his back was about as long as an articulated bus! ATV as a trail horse. Go anywhere, do anything and always looked out for No. 1 (himself!). You just had to stay on top, which wasn't hard since he rarely, if ever, bucked or spooked. When he was 20-ish, I retired him to a friend as a trail horse. She knew of his "I vant to be alone" attitude and they got on great, but she did think the Grinchy faces he made were funny, so she had a t-shirt made with a photograph of him "snarling" and captioned it, "I AM smiling!" So, before the background of Mr. Roberts was fully known, she was into buying a copy of his book and went to a signing. She wore the t-shirt and was subjected to a 15 minute diatribe telling her she had a vicious, untruthworthy horse that was dangerous to ride or work around and should be re-trained by Mr. Roberts OR EUTHANIZED!! The nerve! From ONE photograph without any knowledge of the horse or the circumstances. What a (lying) A$$hat (to borrow a word from Fugly)

When I was young(ish... 9-10) I drank the Monty Roberts Kool-aide. Read all the books, watched all the movies, had a t-shirt even (the first time I wore it, a Llama at the petting zoo lugied on it.. should have known!). I 'joined up' with my poor mare multiple times (she still bucked me off)... then kind of just moved on to different flavored Kool-aide.
What's the deal with him now? Just a jerk with his fame? Or has he been caught in a few lies?
