 Whomever it was, thanks for recommending motivator spurs!
They are awesome! I had POW spurs, but would inadvertently goose Fella so I stopped using them. These are in the perfect spot to cue. So thank you very very much!

Really. Oh poo!  Because they are awesome. Why aren't they legal do you know?
ETA: I checked the Western Dressage rules and they aren't illegal there. Next I'll check the USEF dressage rules.
Yup, found that easily in the USEF rules -equipment. Too bad.

Damned if I know. I suspect it's a wording issue. I can see why spurs with pointy things on a stalk on the inside would be illegal....they're easy to use incorrectly, aka jab the horse at every stride but the 'Motivator" spurs are quite mild. I've seen them sold as Le Spur.

Rats on them not being show legal: they're perfect to get my guy to pay attention to what I'm saying, but I don't need a "real" spur. At least I know now, though...

i originally wanted them but ended up with 1" knob end spurs. I mostly use them in lieu of a whip, My hands are shall we say less reliable in steadyness than my legs.
dont get me wrong sometimes my legs wont listen
but the horses generally tolerate the occasional goose from my spurs alot better than a goose from a whip 
Ps if your wondering im a para rider so my tack usage may differ from yours

Sorry I missed this post, Teddy. I haven't quite figured out how to keep track of my conversations in this new format. I tried the knob spurs too, but had to turn my leg to use them.

thats ok! have you taken hard core dressage lessons? that helped me alot. what about a jumping bat? i prefer the sluggish ones, now i can get any type to move all it takes is patience. you will get the ability to move him without spurs/whip trust me. try riding a more sluggish horse then when you ride fella ikt will be easy!
and your supposed to have to turn your legs for the others, its so your not constantly poking them
