This has been bugging me all day. What on earth is the funny song about the guy making up all this stuff for his on-line persona about how amazing he is, that is all lies? I can't think of it and it's driving me crazy.
A good horseman doesn't have to tell anyone...the horse already knows.
I don't even lie IRL - unless you count the socially polite beige lies:
"Nice haircut..No, you don't look too fat in that..."
Too hard to keep up the backstory on the Big Stuff.
Ughh, I can't even do the polite "beige" lying.
It doesn't come out right, so better don't ask me if you don't want the truth or just a nothing mumble.
I am afraid I have insulted a few people saying what I think, that I didn't think mattered, when it was obvious to all.
As for giving your real number and other IRL particulars, that I don't think has anything to do with lying.
If someone has a public life, some goods or services they offer to the public, of course they want known who they are.
The rest of us, we like to keep our privacy, without that implying we are lying by not disclosing that to all and any out there.
I don't lie. Truth is stranger than fiction anyway.
And the alter ego I've created in my mind is one of those lovely women who always downplays the fact that she is wealthy, thin, gorgeous and descended from royalty and sh(m)e would never brag about those things. Especially not on CoTH. She's much too busy out living her awesome life to spend 9+ hours clicking "Today's Posts".
"Don't cling to a mistake just because you spent a lot of time making it."
It really is so much easier to tell the truth than it is to lie. I don't know how people can fabricate entire lives-they certainly have much better imaginations than I do!
For one thing, I couldn't live with the guilt of knowing I was purposely being deceiptful to someone else.
I also really suck at lying. Every part of my body gives it away. I once took an acting class with my daughter where we were filmed. If I didn't believe in what I was saying, I would literally contort my mouth. It was pretty funny to watch.
I really try not to lie, especially online. The world is small and posts are forever, and you will eventually be caught out.
Now, when Mr. Kestrel says "I told my Mom that we would be happy to have dinner with her on Valentine's Day", I am lying when I say "that's fine dear". I say that because she's 82 and some of her other kids don't spend any time with her, so I guess it sort of is ok and not totally a lie.
In my real life as a District Court Judge, people place their hand on the bible, look me in the eye and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help them God.....then they turn around an lie the minute the get on the witness stand.
I deal with white lies, big whopping lies and everything in between all day long. The last thing I care to do is get on an anonymous horse board and lie. Moreover, I would appreciate it if everyone else could be on the up and up at least regarding the relevant stuff. I rely on much of the information I get on the boards.
