My goals are very modest indeed...

Move my young TB up to novice at recognized shows
Get himself also out at first level dressage shows and score over 64%
Work with my new colt on reliable ground manners and exposure to many new things
Keep my retired horse healthy and happy
And a ton of farm chores (including running new electric/water to fields and paddocks and building 3 run-in sheds)

Oh, and go to Fair Hill to watch everyone here compete!

Great thread! First and foremost, I'd like to continue building trust over fences with my sometimes-suspicious OTTB. We have come a long way in 1.5 years but we still have a ways to go!

Move up to Training in the spring (did a few CT's this fall) and hopefully qualify for the T3DE at Midsouth next October!

2. With Belle, fill in the holes in her training, , scape of the rust, do a Traning HT, and finish a Prelim before the ground gets too hard.

3 Get hired as TD at a recognized HT

4. Get Music in good enough shape to take her to a couple of schooling dressage shows.

1. Fall off less. (Who knew the bar could be set so low?)

2. Don't waste time on unsuitable horses.

3. Have enough money, sound horses and sound rider (at the same time) to participate in an event season.

4. Stadium rounds that I can be proud of.

5. Get medium trot and flying changes ingrained in my muscle memory.

I would like to do some schooling HTs and maybe do a recognized BN, budget and time pending.

Really, I would like to ride consistently again. I have had two back to back pregnancies and I am dieing to get back in the saddle again.

I would like to sell my foal, preferably in utero. I have had some interest but they are waiting for videos of my mare when she gets home. Dear God do not let us have a snow storm before I get this video, I have no indoor.

Solidify lengthenings, and better yet learn how to get them consistently. Right now, when they appear, I still have no idea how!

Help him complete three more novices in the spring.

Let's see:

1. Sell the two that need to be sold
2. Have a great training level season on Keegan with a potential move-up to
preliminary in the fall (first time above novice level since 2008).
3. Get to hang out in the 10 minute box with Caitlin and Remi
4. Get my best recognized event dressage score ever (currently the bar is set
by a 33 on Hilda's upper level horse at novice last year).
5. Get down to one jumping (already successful) and one dressage (4 more to
sell and one to buy) saddle that I really love
6. Run a 50 mile race and get back into more regular running, potentially adding
several states to the "run a half marathon or more in all 50 states" goal

I like this one best! That's why I am in PT in the first place! Although, to be fair, it was not horsey's fault, just a very unfair situation all around. But definitely a very important goal!

My goals for 2013 aren't too big but I'm excited about them. Right now I'm working on solidifying my base of support and hopefully by the end of 2013 I will have evented at BN at an unrecognized. It has been about 3 years since I've shown and I'd love to get out there again.

I biught him as a weanling, planning to sell him at 4 or 5.

Life got in the way, and I didn't start seriously marketing him until he was 6. But did not have much success (except from people who wanted to "pay wholesale")

Several people said they thought he would make a good foxhunter. But we all no, it is difficult to sell a horse as a fohunter unless it has been hunted a bunch of times. This Spring I took him out with Old Dominion as part of the "COTH hunt", and he did great.

Over the summer , I took a VERY long vacation. I let the others have the time off, but I sent Chief to Yvonne Lucas to keep him in work, and to market him. Once I got back, it made sense to leave him with her, as she could show him to people without having to rearrange her whole life, and could take him hunting during the week. We had several nibbles, but nothing that panned out. In all, I think she took him out a dozen times, with several different hunts. She took him out with Piedmont on Thanksgiving Day, and that is where the buyer saw him.


She came and rode him, then took him hunting (with Yvonne accompanying on another horse) in the week, and put a deposit on him. The vetting (almost 3 hours) was at Morven Park on Wednesday. No vetting is ever perfect, but nothing significant showed up, and she took him home with her. I am very happy with where he is going.


Not sure I want to put names out, but she is a retired Federal employee who hunts with both Piedmont and Loudoun West. All of my mutual aquaintances gave her rave reviews as a rider and horsewoman.

So now I get to REALLY focus on Belle.

Edited to add that Yvonne gets all the credit for getting him out hunting, showing him do people, dealing with some potential buyer's oddball requests, and dealing with all the logistics and paperwork.
