    With ice that thick, that's no more dangerous than riding on a paved road. A HS friend of mine used to ride her horses (usually at a trot/canter) across Lake Minnetonka once the ice got to be over a foot thick. If it's thick enough to drive on, it's thick enough to ride a horse on.
