FRONT Zip Breeches?
I was always taught that side-zip was for girls, and front-zip for boys. Is this true? My new show breeches arrived yesterday with a front zip, and I need to know if I should return them...

No I have both side and front, I'm sure it's just what people are more comfortable with

Nope – not true. I started riding in the 1980’s everyone wore front zip. I do not remember seeing side zip until the mid 1990’s.
Many women's breeches come in front zip - in fact, I own only one pair of side zip, the rest are all front zips.

I have both -- the only thing I don't like about my front-zip Trophy Hunters is that the pieces of metal backing the slide closures catch me in the stomach and pinch me.

Nope, women's breeches come in both front zip and side zip. The difference between men's and women's breeches is the pockets - men's have back pockets, women's don't.

Yep, the pockets make the difference.
BUT, I don't think men breeches ever have side zip....

Its all your preference. I think side zips are more popular for H/J ring. I prefer the look, personally.

Most breeches with the eurocut, which seems to be what is popular now, are front zip.

I only have one pair of side-zips, and frankly I prefer front zips! So nope, no need to send them back if you like 'em :-)

Thank you all for your replies! I'll be keeping them, because, after all, if I don't win because of the placement of the zipper on my pants, then it's been a good day!

I like the clean look of side zip, I just don't like how they look on me! Is it sad to say I wouldn't mind back pockets every once in a while?

I had side zips for years and disliked them. I have been super happy that front zips are more and more popular - now I own several pair I show in. Side zips (particularly the lower rise ones) are not made for those of us with very short arms and big boobs. Sigh...

Front zip emphasizes your "pooch" if you have one. But side zip makes you look like a dork because your belt is on sideways.
You pick.

I just got a pair of Grand Prixs with a front zip AND back pockets. Am I accidentally cross dressing?!
(I love them, btw)

Nope! I have a super cute pair of whites with back pockets. They also have a bit of girly detailing, so I'm positive that they aren't for a guy. I think.

Same thing happened to me

I had the same exact issue. But I hate side zip pants even more so I had a tailor sew in a small square of a smooth fabric over the metal backing of the slide closures and problem solved - no more pinching.

I feel that front zips are more flattering on me than side zips, but on a side note, really the only difference between mens and womens are the pockets? that just doesn't seem right
