Would you t/o overnight in an under layer without leg straps?
waiting for my real blanket liner to show up but horse lives out and its going to be cold (<25F) tonight. Considering a knit liner that only has chest buckles and a surcingle. Outer layer has leg straps though.
I would if I didn't expect the horse to do the tango all night. If both layers are well-fitting the outer should hold the inner mostly in place. I've used a wool dress sheet as a layer like this and been fine.

I do it all the time - on all of the 8 horses on my property. I frequently put Baker stable sheets and blankets under waterproof blankets / sheets and have never had a problem with them shifting, even if I use them under a sheet that has a tail strap instead of leg straps.
My guy lives in his back on track mesh sheet with a turnout sheet over top as much as the temperature allows. He plays like a lunatic too and we haven't had a problem with the lack of strap on the mesh sheet. He is soon to be 25 but obviously doesn't know that!
