Rosie and Jack board at the same barn where I board my horses. I got to tease Rosie all last winter because she was bringing back Jack from an injury and was given orders from the vet to ride him regularly (rehab type work). Rosie hates riding in the winter and I am out there rain, sleet and snow. She used to give him the winter off (well, she gave HERSELF the winter off) and just ride during nice weather months. But she really felt it made a difference for him to be ridden last winter and it helped get him ready for their "Century" ride. They are a neat pair and are a great inspiration to all of us.
What is funny is that her photo from this has gone VIRAL! And she has no idea how it got out there. They made the front page of Eventing Nation, the Bit of Britain facebook page, now COTH!!! I told her that she and Jack are going to pass up Pye and Justin Beiber for # of views pretty soon.
I think it was former eventer Lockie Richards (?) who did his Century Ride within the last year or two, and he's in his mid-70s and the horse was 26. He did it at 3rd level. I think I was more impressed that the horse was doing 3rd level at 26 than that Mr. Richards was riding in his mid-70s! LOL
Always a delight to read such stories, especially the horses who have no choice in the matter. Maybe someday my old boy (25+ years) can help someone achieve this. Like her horse, he is not super fancy but is kind, honest and happy.
